Guest guest
Srimathe Ramanujaya namaha Sri Vara Vara munaye Namaha Dear bhagavathootamas, Adiyen humble pranams. Today is Sri Alavandaar’s thirunakshatram(Adi- uttirAdam). In this posting we will enjoy the avadharam of aalavandar as Sri Nathamunigal’s words and will see in detail the life history of Sri aalavandaar in the forthcoming postings. Let us all think of the great acharya and recite his stotra ratnam and chatusloki today and enjoy the anubhavams of Sri Aalavandaar. Sri Aalavandaar thiruvadigalE sAraNam (GPP contd) During this time, there were eight sishyas under Sriman Nadhamunigal, having the qualities as per the verses "sareeram vasu vigyAnam vAsa: karma gunAnaSoon - kurvarththAnyEthyaster sasishyo nEkarasmrutha:". They were Uyyakondar, KurugaikAvalappan, Nambi karunAgara dAsar, AruthinvudaiyAr, Thirukkannamangai Aandan, VanamAmalai devi Andan, Uruppattor Aachchan Pillai and SOgaththoorAzhwan. "Aho dvyasya mAhAtmiyam AhO vEryamahObalam. Mantra rAthnamsu pakaram vEdasAram sanAtanam" is the verse from the sAstras which explains the greatness of the mantra Ratnam dvayam. Sriman Nadhamunigal taught his sishyas the great arthas of dVayam, ThrivuvAimozhi and other prabhandhams and the vEda shastras. He also explained the inner meanings of Sri purusha nirnayam and nyasam which were considered as the crux of the Rahasya Arthas. After this he stayed in meditation on "KariyakOla thiruvuru" i.e bhagavan sriman Narayana The king who heard about the yoga of Sriman Nadhamunigal came to visit him along with his queens. They first had the darshan of Mannanar and then came to see Nadhamunigal. On seeing Nadhamunigal in deep meditation towards the lord, they were highly astonished and started to return back. Nadhamunigal came out of his meditation and as per "thiruvudai mannarai kAnil thirumAlai kandene ennum”, he thought them to be Lord Krishna and Gopikas and followed suit to Gangaikondacholapuram. On hearing this, his sishyas including Uyyakondar and KurugaikAvalappan followed the footsteps of their acharya to the same place and requested him for the reason why he did like that. Nadhamunigal explained "krishnanum, pendugalumAga ninaiththu avargaludane vandhen" (I thought the king to be Lord Krishna and the queens to be Gopikas and hence followed them) After some days the king again came to have the darshan of Mannanar and when he was about to start his return journey, he placed his legs on one of his servants head and climbed to the back of the elephant. Seeing this sriman Nadhamunigal wondered that it was like emperuman (Sarweswaran) placing his lotus feet on the heads of Brahma, Rudran and others and climbing over Periya Thiruvadi (GarudAzhwan). Such was the famous experience of Sriman Nadhamunigal. He then stayed in Yoga for some more time and ordered Kurugai KAvalappan to practice Yoga Rahasyam and taught him the procedures for ashtAngayOga. He also said the same to Uyyakondar, who refused saying “pinam kiddakka manam punaralaamo? enda sareerA vasanathtil abyasikka amaiyum. (Will anyone smell the deadbody? The yoga rahasyam has to be only practiced in the last days) Hence Nadhamunigal entrusted him with the job of spreading the message of shastras, Thiruvaimozhi and other prabandams. Nadhamunigal then told his son Ishwaramuni that he will be blessed with a boy and that boy should be named as “Yamunai Thuraivar”. He then instructed Uyyakondar and Kurugai Kavalappan to pass on his teachings on DharshanathAthparyam and yogarahasyam to Yamunai Thiraivar. He then went into his Yoga again. Once again the king with all his parivars came for hunting and Nadhamunigal's daughter came reporting that "Two men with bow and arrow along with a women and a monkey came in search of you to our house and asked "Where is Nadhamuni?" On hearing this, sriman Nadhamunigal immediately came to a conclusion that they should be none other than Sri Ramapiran along with PirAtti, Elaya PerumAl and Iyndhuvyakaranapandithan (Hanuman) as per the verses Akradha pralaya: Rama: Seetha madhyesumadyamA – Prushtadhashtuta nushpAnir LakshmanO anujakAmahO. Having this in mind, Nadhamunigal immediately started in the direction of Rama Parivaar's path. He kept asking the people he met on the way for the whereabouts of the persons described above. Their reply was also positive, stating that, they indeed saw the described persons going in the same path. Thereby Nadhamunigal followed the path and reached the border of Gangaikondacholapuram, but was unable to find the Rama parivAr. Notwithstanding the loss, he lost his self and started weeping. Due to this great sorrow he attained paramapadam. "Paranthu Vaishnavam lOkam nithyAnandham sukAvaham - thathrasam vAhinEn divyAm virajAm vEda sambhavAm - sarvE vEdamayAs subA: aprAkrthamayAnithyA: punarAvruththivarjithA: EkAnthinassadhA brahma dyAninOyOginOhiye, deshAnthath paramam stAnam yadvai pashyanthi soorayaha:" Such was the lOkA attained by sriman Nadhamunigal.(The great Sri Vaikuntam). Sita PirAtti, after being separated from Sri Ramapiran stayed in Ashokavanam for almost ten months. But sriman Nadhamunigal, even before seeing and enjoying, left his life, not withstanding the misery of separation from Sri Ramapiran. Uyyakondar, KurugaiKavalappan and Ishwara Muni came to know of the news that their acharyan had reached the lotus feet of emperuman and hence immediately rushed to the spot to see the sarama thirumEni (mortal remains) of sriman Nadhamunigal. They were embedded in deep sorrow, when they saw their acharya's sarama thirumeni, but slowly recovered from the shock by consoling themselves. Finally the sarama kainkaryam, along with Brahma mEdha samskAram was done by sri Ishwara Muni and then Nadhamunigal's mortal remains were laid to peace.(Pallipaduthudal). Then they went back to Veeranarayana puram and completed the other jobs which have to be done. Kurugai KAvalappan started his yoga in a place very near to where Sriman Nadhamunigal used to generally stay in yogam. Sriman Nadhamunigal's thirunakshathram (Birth Star) - Aani Anusham.
