Guest guest
SRIMATHE RAMANUJAYA NAMAH; (7) APPAN THIRUVADIGALE SARANAM Dear Bhagavathas, Accept my pranam. This is in continuation of my earlier posting. # Then what is ‘saranagathi’ and what is its use if Emperuman is the “Upaya”? The same question asked by the sishya of Nanjeeyar (mentioned above) We daily recite 3 Saramaslokas’ !.Sarva Dharman parithyjya mam ekam saranam vrja Aham thva sarva pabebyo mokashyishyami ma sochaha: Geetha slokam propounded by Lord Krishna to Arjuna. After having explained the philosophy completely and Gnana yoga,Karma yoga and Bhakti yoga, still Arjuna was in confusion. He requested Sri Krishna to tell him what he should do and he will do that.. Bhagavat Geetha is “Moksha sastra “expounded to Arjuna to dispel his misgivings. Now, is of no use to him. He was advised to fight. But, for us this is an advice to put aside all sastras pointing the way to Moksha. Simply have faith in Emperuman and do our duty. He will look after us. 2.”Sri Rama sarama slokam “Sakrutheva Prapannaya thavasmithicha yachathe Abhyam sarva Bhoothebyaha: thathami Ethat vratham mama. If any body surrenders to me once confiding faith in me, as Prapannan I give him protection from all evils. This is avowed my policy, We have surrenderd to Him through our Acharyan 3.Varaha saramaslokam. Sthithe Manasi susvasthe sareeresathi yo Naraha; Dhathu samye sthithe smartha Visvaroopamcha Mamajam Thathastham mriyamanam thu kashtapaashanasannibham Aham smarami Math Bhaktham Nyami Paramamgathim. Any man when he is in sound state of health and mind thinks of me as the Lord I think of him when he is in death bed like a stone or wood and takes him to Paramam ghathi(Highest position). This kind of action”saranagathi” requires no more action or ritual. We know some more “Saranagathis” !. By Gajendra Azhvan 2. Kakam(Crow) In Ramayana. 3. Kaliyan (Serpant) in Krishnavatharam 4. Droupathi(Mahabharatham) 5. Sugreevan (Ramayanam) 6. Vibheeshanan(Ramayanam) 7. Perumal to Varuna(Ramayanam) In all these cases no ritual was followed except case 7. The first 4 cases were made in distress, Case 5 also can be called as distress. But, an agreement was made between Rama and Sugreeva for the fight against Ravana. Case 6 also is a case of distress. After many consultations with Sugreeva and his deputies Sri Rama revealed his decision to accept Vibheeshana. No rituals etc., Case 8. Sri Rama had to cross the ocean to reach Lanka. He was advised to surrender to Varuna to help him. Here we may enjoy the Sutra 31. Of Srivachana Bhooshanam. ‘ IVVIDATHIL VEL VETTIP PILLAIKKUPP PILLAI ARULICHEYTHA VAARTHAIYAI SMARIPATHU.’ (Here, the explanation given by Nampillai to Vel Vetti Pillai may be remembered) That is.Vel vetti pillai raised a doubt to Nampillai regarding the saranagathi by Sri Rama to Varuna by observing some rules .His doubt was “should not Prapatti need some similar conditions for prapannas?”.Nampillaiexplained. Such conditions are not necessary for Sri Rama also. But, he comes from a family known for such practices and that is why he followed them. Vibheeshan only advised Sri Rama to make surrender to Varuna. But, he did not advise him to bathe in the sea and do observe the rules, which Sri Rama followed. Vibheeshan , a Rakshasa came as he was when he left Lanka And Rama accepted him as such with out any kind of rituals. But, in his case it was different. So, it is enough if there is a desire to surrender To be continued to ….
