Among the 108-divya desams, chOzha nAdu is the richest, both in greenery and

also in the count of having the maximum number of divya desams (40) to its

credit. The construction style in almost all these 40 dd’s is similar. Chozha

nAdu dd’s have their sannadhis only one level unlike the pandiya nAdu dds, which

are constructed with sannadhi’s in various levels (perumal is seen in different

forms in the sannadhis in various levels like in thirukkOshtiyur, thirukoodal

etc).

 

In other regions the dd’s may be present in the banks of various rivers, sea etc

but in chOzha nAdu almost all dd’s are in the banks of the river kAveri only.

ChOzha nAdu not only hosts the supreme divya desam of we Srivaishnavas, the head

quarters, Srirangam. It also houses the birthplaces of three alwars namely

thondaradipodi alwar-mandangudi, ThiruppAnAzhvAr-uraiyoor and Thirumangai alwar

– kuraiyaloor.

 

Each one of the 40 dds included in chOzha nAdu has its own speciality. To

identify the boundary of chOzha nAdu, an age-old song of our ancestors comes to

rescue. The song goes as follows:

“kadal kizakku therkku karai poru vellAru

kudadhisai kOttaikaraiyAm- vadadhisai

vAnnAttu pannai erupadhu nArkadhu ach

chOnattukku ellai endru seppu”
