The Name: UpadesaRatnaMalai ============================== What he has received (Upadesa) from HIS Acharya, Thiruvaimozhipillai and from the Acharya parampara is the most vaulable, that he calls them Gems (RATNA) . These Gems are so many, so he has strung them in a orderly fashion into a Garland (Malai) Why 74 Verses: ============== In reflection of 74 simhaAdhipathis to bring Emperumanar darsanam to all interested devotees, (These 74 Acharya Purusha lineages established by Swami Ramanuja are still practicing and propogating today) 73 Verses are written by Mamunigal, the 74th Verse is commanded by Lord Ranganatha to be added (written by Swami eRumbiyappA) Purpose: ======== With so much information being lost, and so many new works springing up, Mamunigal provides a guideline for those interested, The list of Azhwar and Acharyas, in order of their birth and their main contributions and compositions. So that we learn these as the basic foundations. Mamunigal also gives the dates of birth of Azhwars, as there seems to have been confusions on their birth dates those days. (PS: Azhwars gave the Vedanta principles in Tamil, accessible to all humanity to enjoy and realize their purpose of life.)
