Andal's "worship" of Kamadeva

Our Poorvacharyas have given an excellent vyakyanam for this Andal's worship

of kamadeva.

In Thiru Ayarpadi, all the men and women folks worship Krishna as their

only God. Their affinity towards Krishna is so much that they even get angry

(Satvic Anger) if somebody praises Rama. This attitude has been used by

Andal in their awakening from their sleeps.

In one of the pasurams she says "manathukkiniyanai pAdElOr empAvAi. Here

Manathukkiniyan refers to Lord Rama. Where does Lord Rama fit in Thiru

Ayarpadi, which has been mesmerised by Krishna? This has been used as a

tactic by Andal. Andal adopts various methods to awaken people from their

sleeps. But she is not able to achieve her goal. So she adopts the policy

of praising Rama instead of Krishna, so that the sleeping people, on hearing

the praise of lord Rama, cannot digest this and they will come out fighting

for this.

 

Andal, in NAcchiyAr thirumozhi goes a step further and she uses the same

tactic against the lord himself. Sriman Narayana, cannot digest that one of

his supreme devotee, Andal is falling at the feet of some other devata, in

front of his eyes. He will go rushing to sort the things out. This is what

done by Andal. She makes a mock worship to Kamadeva, so that her lord will

come rushing in front of her, not digesting this act.
