Guest guest
Sri Parthasarathi thunai Srimathe Ramanujaya namaha Sri Vara Vara munaye Namaha Yadhava prakasa, was continuing his Vedanta lessons to his disciples, when one day, the princess of that kingdom got affected due to a brahmarakshas. The king enquired, whether there were any capable magicians available, who could overcome the rakshas and save his daughter. People around, told him about yadhava prakasa and his greatness. Thereby the king sent a messenger to yadhava asking him to come immediately and do the needful, so that his daughter can come out of the clutches of brahmarakshas. A messenger came to yadhava and conveyed the king's message. Yadhava with great ego and pride replied, "Go to the brahmarakshas and say that I ordered him to leave the princess immediately". The messenger returned back and did as per the words of yadhava prakasa. The moment, the messenger conveyed the orders to the brahmarakshas, the rakshas without any hesitation replied, "Go tell him that I ordered him to leave from there". The messenger came back and told yadhava the brahmaraksha's reply. With great anger, Yadhava prakasa with his disciples went to the king's court. He recited the mahA manthra and put his hand infront of the brahmarakshas as an indication for the brahmarakshas to leave. The brahmarakshas put its leg infront of yadhava prakasa and said, "Hey! Yadhava don't I know the manthra which you have recited?" and it uttered the manthra. Further the brahmarakshas continued to say, "I will not leave either for you or your manthra. You are ignorant about both, your poorva janma as well as mine." Yadhava got very angry and screamed back at the rakshas, "So if you are the master then tell me now about my birth and yours". The brahmarakshas replied, " In your previous birth you were an animal (vudumbu) in the banks of the lake in madhurAnthakam. You used to make your living by eating the food spilled over from the hands of the devotees who were on their way to thirumala. Only due to that you have attained this birth with knowledge about the vedas. Also I was a brahmana in my previous birth. But due to manthralOpa and kriyAlOpa (mistakes in recitation of manthras and procedures) in the yaga I performed I have become a brahmarakshas". Yadhava then asked the brahmarakshas, "Then when will you leave?" B.R: "I will leave for the words of one of your disciples, who is none other than the head of nithyasooris" Y.P.: "Who is that?" The brahmarakshas pointed towards elaiyAzhvar and prostrated to him. B.R.: "If he asks me to leave then I will leave immediately" Y.P.: "Then elaiyAzhvar! ask him to leave immediately" ElaiyAzhvar: "If that is the case then Oh! brahmarakshas leave the princess now and go away." B.R.: "I have a condition if I have to leave" ElaiyAzhvar: "What's that?" B.R.: "You have to place your divine foot on my head" ElaiyAzhvar accepted and placed his divine feet on the head of the brahmarakshas. The rakshas was very happy and with a smile said "Then now Iam leaving" ElaiyAzhvar: "How do I know that you have left? You have to give some proof." B.R.: "Ok. See the wood over there. I will leave by breaking through the wood as an indication. The brahmarakshas left the princess in the same way and yadhava prakasa was very happy with his disciple and then returned back to his place.
