Guest guest
Sri: Srimathe Ramanujaya nama: Dear Devotees, All my contention in the previous posts regarding nirhEthuka krpa is that AcArya Hrdhayam talks only about paragatha swIkAram. swAgatha swIkAram - the individual trying to get hold of the Lord paragatha swIkAram - the descent of Lord's unconditional grace on the individual,at His volition. AH 186 exhibits the Lord's one of the kalyANa guNAs namely "swAmithvam" and not the greatness of the jIvAtmA/its efforts. swAmithvam(sovereignity) - inspire necessary confidence in the supplicants that they will be looked after well and all their desires fulfilled by the Lord as the sovereign master. NammAzhvAr did not think that he should sing like this on God and sang the thousand. Bue the thousand hymns came from his mouth due to the overflow of paramabhakthi. Swami Azhagiya MaNavALa PerumAL NAyanAr says that everything boils down to His grace even from the perspective of the Lord. What matters in the final analysis is the Lord's will. Example: SVB 142-145 SVB 142: ivan(jIvAtma) avanaip(paramAtmA) peRa ninaikkum pOdhu indha prapaththiyum upAyam anRu. SVB 143: avan(paramAtma) ivanaip(jIvAtma) peRa ninaikkum pOdhu pAdhakamum(sin/undeserving) vilakkanRu. SVB 144: ivai iraNdum SribharathAzhvAn pakkalilum Sriguhap perumAL pakkalilum kANalAm. SVB 145: SribharathAzhvAnukku nanmai thAnE thImaiyAyththu;Sriguhap perumALukku thImai thAnE nanmaiyAyththu. In the case of bharatha-Rama,the former sought out(swAgatha swIkAram) SriRama in the forest and performed sharaNAgathi at the latter's feet, begging Him to get back to ayODhyA and assume the kingdom. But SriRama had different ideas and would not oblige bharatha although latter's devotion is very pure and in this case,SriRama's thoughts did not coincide with bharatha's trend of thinking. On the other hand, the hunter guha was "voluntarily" courted by SriRama. The puNya (merit)and pApa(demerit) are not absolute but relative to the Lord's pleasure and displeasure respectively. Bharatha's thoughts were pure yet it displeased the Lord. Even prapatti, performed by the individual, when not in consonance with the Lord's own inclination, becomes a transgression too. The evil of "swAgatha swIkAram",that is,the individual trying to gain the Lord,is illustrated in SVB 146 & 147. Sri Ramanuja,in his sharaNAgathi gadhyam, implores the Lord to redeem him from all sins,in particular,to forgive his cheekiness and audacity in seeking the Lord's forgiveness(R does sharaNAgathi in the beginning through the mediation of thAyAr) despite his massive sins. The prapanna belonging to the school of "swAgatha swIkAram" stands in the plight of a woman who had strayed away from her husband for long and one fine day, without any qualms for her past sins/transgressions goes to him and asks him to take her back. After the overthrow of rAvaNA,SriRama sent for Sita, whom He wished to see straight from her captivity but Sita presented herself before Him,after a refreshing bath and SriRama literally frowned at her. Cf. SVB 166: snAnam rOSha janakam engiRa vArththaiyai smarippadhu. So again, what matters is the Lord's will,His pleasure/displeasure. Kindly forgive all my wrong understandings.
