Srimathe Ramanujaya Namaha

The moment I hear about the lotus feet, the pasuram that comes to my

mind is

"Nadandha Kaalgal Nondhavo Nadunga Gnyalam Enamai

Edandha Mei Kulungavo Elangu Maal Varai Churam

Kadandha Kaal Parandha Kavirikkarai Kudaindhaiyul

Kidandhavaru Ezhundhirundhu Pesu Vaazhi Kesanae"

- Thirumazhisai Azhwar

The background story:

In Thirukkudandhai shrine while Thirumizhisai Piran sung the above

Pasuram ("Please speak after getting up"), Lord Sarangapani had

obliged Alwar by just getting up from his ananthasayanam posture.

Alwar could not stand the gesture of Lord Amudhan as he did not want

to disturb his sleeping posture. He requested Lord Amudhan to remain

in his usual posture. Since Lord Amudhan had got up a little by then,

the "sayanam" posture is called "Uththana Sayanam".

Azhwar excalims "Oh! Did those great legs pain for you when you

walked over/crossed the lands during the Varaha/Rama/Krishna

Avatarams?" While there are others who praise the lord and his feet

using the Manthra Rathnam(charanau sharanam) or the Shruthi Vakyams

etc, look at the state of our Azhwars. Can anyone be a match for them

in their feeling? This is where our sampradayam excels. The jeeva-

atma and parama-atma relationship is like that of wife-husband

relationship. Which husband ever wants a wife who keeps praising him

(bhakthi) all the time. Azhwar is like a wife who cannot bear a pain

that her husband is undergoing. What a wonderful feeling? He first

tells the lord "why don't you get up and speak". Then he suddenly

realizes the phantom tasks that the lord has performed in the

avatatharams. By this time, the lord, not even caring about the

archaroopam, starts getting up. Then, Azhwar feels the lord's pain

and says "You would have had so much of pain in your legs as you have

done those phantom tasks. Kindly stay in the rested posture and

speak":). The lord was getting up and as soon as he heard Azhwar

requesting him to rest, just stops as is and hence his posture in the

Thirukkudandai is called the "Uththana Sayanam". Unlike Para, Vyuha,

Vibhava, Antharyami roopams of the lord, the Archa roopam is amazing.

And if the lord listens to Azhwar even in his Archa roopam and

changes his posture, think of this relationship and love between

these two. We could only wish if HIS grace makes us do kainkaryam to

him and love him the way azhwars did:(

Request you all to forgive my mistakes.
