SRIMATHE RAMANUJAYA NAMAHA

APPAN THIRUVADIGALE SARANAM

Dear Bhagavatas. Accept my pranam.

Let us refer to slokas 3 & 4 of Jithanthe Stotram

3 EKASTHVAMASI LOKASYA SRUSHTA SAMHARAKAS THATHA

ADHTAKSHASCHAANUMANTHA CHA GUNAMAYA SAMAVRUTHAHA.

{You alone are the creator of the worlds

You are the destroyer.

You are the protector.

You allow us to do as per our wishes

You are hidden by the Prakruthi, which comprises the 3 Gunas.

He allows us to act, as we like. Why he did not stop us from doing wrong things?

Because we like it by the influences of the 3 gunas.

“like’….BECOMES DESIRE AND GROWS INTO inevitable passion and longing. Now,

efforts are made to meet the passion. Here, the reasoning process is likely be

affected by erroneous logic, just to pacify the passion. God allows us with a

heavy heart and allows to have an experience. He remains silent. Because it is

our choice. He consoles himself with the thought that we may come to HIM on

another later occasion and waits for that. All of us are his property and He is

our savior. He cannot interfere with each and every one’s activity. If he does

so he will have to carry all the blames.

We, a tiny fragment of the entire universe have to play our part. We should be

prudent and our actions should be relevant. We gain knowledge from various

sources, such as Sruthi, Smruthi, Ithihas Puranas , NDP and others. By the

knowledge gained. a taste for Emperuman would have arisen. If we had absolute

faith on him the desire for material gains will be minimized{ say, for the bare

existence}. All our actions will be dedicated to him. The possibility of erring

will not be there. There will be no necessity for the God to interfere in such

actions. We march progressively towards salvation.

There is no necessity to attach importance to our role unless we feel to do so.

It is EGO/Arrogance , a product of Rajas and Thamas gunas.

RAAVANA, HIRANYA, DURYODHANA etc., are the best example of highest form of

EGO and arrogance. They wanted THEIR WILL ALONE should prevail.

If desire salvation the EGO, I and MINE feelings are to be eradicated

ABSOLUTELY.

This is the real spirit of ‘NAMAHA’

He is hidden. Why?

We are not able to see him or realize his presence.

Because, our actions are covered by the 3 gunas. SATVA, RAJAS AND THAMAS. Rajas

and Thamas bind us in samsara. They increase our EGO and ignorance. The

increase of satva guna over the other 2 brings us nearer to him and realization

of him becomes possible.

He is not hidden

Our actions are the enemies and we are not able to realize him. That is the

truth.

Sloka. 4.

SAMSARA SAGARAM GORAM ANANTHA KLESA BHAJANAM

THVAMEVA SARANAM PRAPYA NISTHARANTHI MANEESHINAHA;

Those who have conquered the mind consider you ALONE as the means to cross the

ocean of samsara which is the origin and abode of all sufferings. They

surrender to you and cross it.

MANEESHINAHA; Those who have conquered the mind.

Mind is the processor of all actions. It is liable to falter by erroneous

logics.

But, those who have surrendered to you have gained proper knowledge. They will

not have the EGO, I and Mine. They feel all is yours and they do act as

caretakers.

Can these people do a sinful act?

They will not do such acts knowingly that it is a sinful act.

Moreover, the term sin is a relative term.

The motive in the action is important.

As an illustration:

If anybody kills another one willfully the law of the land takes care of him and

he is ordered to be hanged to death by the judge. The execution is carried out

by one who is in no way connected to the incident. There were government

officers watching this execution. All these people are doing their duties only.

They are not sinners. The soldiers protect the country. They are heroes when

they destroy the enemies.

Bhagavat Gita is a moksha sastra. Our elders have explained as such. Arjuna who

was confused that he is going to kill his relatives was consoled with the advice

of BG. But, he did not get the impact of such advice of BG sufficiently. Yet,

obeyed Lord Krishna and fought the battle .He was not yet ripe for Moksha.

FREE WILL. 3.

Dear Bhagavatas. Accept my pranam.

NIRHETUKA KRUBAI. Emperuman showers his grace on somebody for which no reason

can be attributed.

Is it possible? Isitcorrect?

In the modern world with strong commercial attitude and with various attractions

it is reasonable to doubt this point.

The goal in life for almost all the people is for a comfortable life with

wealth, health and family {if they desire a family}. They worship the God for

this purpose only and they are not interested on matters beyond this point.

2. There are some people whose goal is to go to heaven after death.

3. There are some people who aspire for the posts of INDARA OR BRAHMA etc.,

They {2&3} worship smaller gods and Emperuman for these goals.

These people should make their effort towards their goals in addition to their

trust in Gods.

All these people {1to 3} are designing their fate to live in Samsara for ever.

4. But, those who crave for release from Samsara i.e., to attain Moksha are very

rare.

Should such people make effort in addition to their trust in God or not?

Scriptures prescribe Karma, Gna, Bhakti margas as means towards their goals.

But, the terms and conditions of these paths are very rigorous, selective,

applicable to certain section of the society only. Any lapse in the observance

may not yield the desired results.

Alternatively there is another way “PRAPATHI’

Actually this is not a “means’. It is a way of life. It is to have absolute

faith in Emperuman Sriman Narayanan who only can grant Moksha. Such people’s

faith on Lord is unassailable .Their desire is to serve HIM at all times for

HIS pleasure.

OZIVIL KAALAMELLAM UDANAYAIMANNI

VAZHUVILLA ADIMAI CHYYA VENDUM NAAM. {TVM 3.3.6}

Let us consider Alavandar’s Stotra Ratna slokam 22..

NA DHARMANISHTOSMI NA CHAATHMA VEDHI

NA BHAKTHIMAS THVATH CHARANARAVINDHE

AKINCHANOANANYA GHADHIS CHARANYA

THAVTHPAADHAMOOLAM SARANAM PRAPADHYE.

{ I do not follow the 3 paths Karma, Gna and Bhakti margas.

I have no other means or any other goal. .I surrender to your Lotus feet}

The entire Stotra Ratna gives the information that Jeeva understands its

relation with Emperuman and rely on his Nirhethuka krubai. He prays for service

to his master {Emperuman} only. He is the owner and all, will take care of him.

Another doubt is how and why Emperuman should shower his grace on such people

who does not make any effort for their release?

Answer is very simple and obvious.

Because, SRIMAN NARAYANAN is the master, creator owner etc., of all.

He only should take care of his property.

It is not proper for the property {Jeevan} to request HIM to be saved.

The very thought that Jeevan should do something for his benefit and Emperuman’s

pleasure reflects that Jeevan has still the effect of “I” and “Mine” with it.

Once our relation with HIM is realized effectively, it can be understood that

all our thoughts action etc., are all that of Emperuman. This acknowledgement is

only required on the part of Jeevan .

The entire THIRUVAIMOZHI REFLECTS THIS ATTITUDE OF NIRHETGUKA KRUBAI.

‘ISAIVITHHU ENNAI UN THALINAI KEEZH IRUTHUMMANE. {TVM 5.8.9}

{You made me to consent and you have taken me to your Lotus feet.}

Let us have a glimpse of THIRUVAIMOZHI on these points.

In the first pasuram itself Nammzhvar says

MAYARVARA MADHI NALAM ARULINAN. {TVM.1.1.1.}

{He gave blemish less knowledge}

Did Azhvar ask for it? There is no information of his request.

On the contrary, he says Emperuman has occupied his mind without his consent.

YANOTTI ENNUL IRUTHUVAMMENRILAN

THANOTTI VANDHU EN THANI NENCHAI VANCHITHHU

OONOOTI NINRU ENNUYIRIL KALANTHU {tvm. 1.7.7.}

{ I HAVE NOT GIVEN MY CONSENT FOR HIS OCCUPATION OF MY MIND. He on his own

accord enticed my mind merged with my body and soul.}

Did Azhvar wanted to get away.? No.

ENNAI NEKIZKILUM ENNUDAYA NAL NECHANTHANNAI AKALVIKKA THANUM KILLAN. {TVM.1.7.8}

In other words, Nammazhvar’s mind got attached to Emperuman.Hereafter Emperuman

cannot move away feom him.

The entire THIRUVAIMOZHI is in this strain. Nammzhvar claims that it is

Empruman who made the first move.

IN THAT CASE a doubt may arise. Why Emperuman did not give Moksham in the first

instance itself and waited till Nammazvar sanf more than 1000 songs?

Same question was put by Nammazhvar himself .

INREENAIP PORULLAKKI THANNAI ENNUL VAITHAN

ANRENNAI PURMA POKA PUNARNTHATHU EN CHEYVAN

KUNRAMADANKAL CHOOZH THIRUPPERAN

ONRENAKKU UNARTHALURRENE.

{10.8.9}

{ He made me a worthful object to day and he merged in me. Why he did not do

this earlier? Will he make me to understand?}

An interesting conversation between Nanjeeyar and Bhattar has occurred over this

passage as could be gathered from EEDU.

What was the answer by Emperuman th Nammazhvar’s question. ?

A series of answers were given by Emperuman which were met again by

supplementary posers.

YONNOTTI ENNUL IRUTHUVAM ENNRILAN { I did not give my consent for occupation of

my mind. It was your will} {TVM.1.7.7.}

THHEMANAM KEDUTHAIYEE.{ You destroyed my evil mind} TVM.2.7.8

MARUVITHOZUM MZNME KODUTHAYEE.{ You gave the dedicated mind to worship you}

TVM.2.7.7.

KAATHA KADAL PURAYA VILAIVITHA KARAMAR MEENI {Your beautiful personality made

my love to surge like sea}

The contention of Nammazhvar was whatever action he did was by the influence of

Emperuman’s personality and actions.

So, what reply Emperuman could give. He remained silent ashamed. Thus ens the

conversation.

What answer could be given?

If a thirsty person gets a tender coconut, will he make enquiries as to how

water entered into it or quench his thirst?

AARENAKKU NINPADHAME SARANAKA THANTHOZHINTHAYE

UNAKORU KAIMARU NAAN ONRILEN ENATHAVIUM UNATHE.{ You gave your Lotus feet as

saviour to me. I do not have any thing to give to you in return. My soul also

is yours.{TVM.5.7.10}

ENAKKE AADCHYEE EKKALATHHUM ENRU EN

MANAKKE VANDHU IDAI VEEDINRI MANNI

THANEKKE ENAI KOLLUM EETHE[ Serve all times …so sayinf he occupied my mind

entirely. This is the way he takes me for him alone} {TVM.2.9.4}

So, is it not wise to accept Emperuman’s grace without any question ?

Emperuman is the OWENER OF ALL.

He takes care of his property. It is his will to do as he likes. He will do

whatever is correct only. THAT IS HIS NIRHETHUKA KRUBAI . We need not question

it.
