Thick clouds end heat wave in AP/Kerala/Karnataka

Hyderabad, June 9: Thick pre-monsoon clouds and showers cooled the

city, ending a 23-day heat spell on Monday. Various places in the

city including Basheerbagh, Exhibition grounds, Nampally and Patny

crossroads witnessed rain.

"We recorded only 0.4mm rainfall and we can't rule out more

thundershowers," a Met official said. He said that the monsoons are

likely to hit coastal Andhra by six days.

The mercury fell to 43ºC in Vijayawada. The heat toll from climbed to

1,725 but the State confirmed 1,402 deaths. But an agency report from

New Delhi said that the monsoon had not advanced further both in the

South and the North-East. The conditions are favourable for its

advance into Karnataka in a day or two.

Kerala continued to record heavy rainfall with Kottayam getting 9 cm,

Kannur and Kozhikode 7 cm each, Indian Meteorological Department

officials said.

Several places in Karnataka also received moderate rainfall ranging

from 3-4 cm.

Jeeyar Swami to perform 9-day yagna

Visakhapatnam, June 1:

Eight Jeeyar Swamis will be camping in Vizag city for nine days from

Monday. They will participate in Sri Lakshmi Narayana Kratuvu at

Bullaya College grounds under the guidance of Sri Tridandi Sri Ranga

Ramanuja Jeeyar Swamy.

The Kratuvu is done with an aim to provide relief to the people who

have been reeling under drought for the last one-and-a-half year.

The devotees will chant Narayanamantra for one crore times during the

period and as many as 10 lakh homas will be performed and Anna

Santarpana will be hosted for 1 lakh people.

The main event in this Kratuvu is the mantropadesham of Ashtasloki or

the eight slokas which are embedded with rahasyatrayasaram to all

people irrespective of their caste, creed or religion by the eight

Jeeyar Swamis.

The Swamis have taken up the job as followers of Bhagavad

Ramanujacharya who performed the same task about 1,000 years ago.

This would be performed at the venue on June 3 at 6 pm.

About one lakh copies of Narayana Mantharam have been distributed for

the purpose. The most colourful event of the Kratuvu is `Aakasa

Deeparadhana' on June 6 which includes the releasing of 6,666 helium

balloons into the sky. A multimedia presentation will be organised on
