Various places in the city including Basheerbagh, Exhibition grounds, Nampally and Patny crossroads witnessed rain. "We recorded only 0.4mm rainfall and we can't rule out more thundershowers," a Met official said. He said that the monsoons are likely to hit coastal Andhra by six days. The mercury fell to 43ºC in Vijayawada. The heat toll from climbed to 1,725 but the State confirmed 1,402 deaths. But an agency report from New Delhi said that the monsoon had not advanced further both in the South and the North-East. The conditions are favourable for its advance into Karnataka in a day or two. Kerala continued to record heavy rainfall with Kottayam getting 9 cm, Kannur and Kozhikode 7 cm each, Indian Meteorological Department officials said. Several places in Karnataka also received moderate rainfall ranging from 3-4 cm. -------------------------------- -------------------------------- Jeeyar Swami to perform 9-day yagna Visakhapatnam, June 1: Eight Jeeyar Swamis will be camping in Vizag city for nine days from Monday. They will participate in Sri Lakshmi Narayana Kratuvu at Bullaya College grounds under the guidance of Sri Tridandi Sri Ranga Ramanuja Jeeyar Swamy. The Kratuvu is done with an aim to provide relief to the people who have been reeling under drought for the last one-and-a-half year. The devotees will chant Narayanamantra for one crore times during the period and as many as 10 lakh homas will be performed and Anna Santarpana will be hosted for 1 lakh people. The main event in this Kratuvu is the mantropadesham of Ashtasloki or the eight slokas which are embedded with rahasyatrayasaram to all people irrespective of their caste, creed or religion by the eight Jeeyar Swamis. The Swamis have taken up the job as followers of Bhagavad Ramanujacharya who performed the same task about 1,000 years ago. This would be performed at the venue on June 3 at 6 pm. About one lakh copies of Narayana Mantharam have been distributed for the purpose. The most colourful event of the Kratuvu is `Aakasa Deeparadhana' on June 6 which includes the releasing of 6,666 helium balloons into the sky.
