Guest guest
Sri Parthasarathi thunai SrimathE rAmAnujaya Namaha Sri Vara Vara MunayE Namaha Sri VanAchala mahA munayE Namaha While talking about the two brothers Sri PillaiLokA ChAriar (here after will be referred as PL) and Azhagia Manavalap Perumal NAyanAr(here after will be referred as AMP) adiyen was reminded of a very pleasant legend in our guru parampara. The works of both the brothers are mostly in the form of aphorisms (sutra). “surunga cholli viriththurappadhE (vilangavaipadhE?) sutram” that is in a single sentence it conveys a lot of meaning. But there is a difference between the works of the two brothers. Sri PL’s sutras are clear in words but have indepth meanings whereas in case of the sutras of Acharya hrudhayam the words themselves are difficult to understand. Our acharyas term this difference as ‘drAkshA pAkam’ and ‘nArikEla pAkam’. We enter a grape vine and find a lot of grape fruits hanging. Immediately we can take and taste them but incase if we enter a place with number of coconut trees can we taste them immediately? No. We have to first climb the tree; get hold of the coconut then remove the shell and finally we can taste the coconut water. So it takes so much process before we really enjoy it. Sri PL’s Sri Vachana bhooshanam is the draksha pAkam and Sri AMP’s Acharya hrudhayam is the nArikEla pAkam. Why this difference? The answer is amazing. As you all know, Sri vadakkuthiruveedhi pillai (VTP, father of the great brothers) was the sath sishya of Nampillai. Swamy VTP was an excellent disciple and very close to his acharya. But VTP showed indifference to family life. So one day, VTP’s mother approached nampillai and told him, “Your shisya performs his duties as a disciple well but as a husband he doesn’t care about the family life. It is not for a lowkika reason adiyen is talking to you now, but there should be a worthy successor for him, to hand over all the divine arthas that you have passed on to your disciple through the oran vazhi sampradayam” Accepting the request, nampillai showered his blessings on VTP because of which some months later, VTP couples were blessed with a child. The child who was born due to the anugraham of nampillai is none other than our great lOkacharya (Sri PL). Not being able to keep quiet, ranganAtha for his claim, inturn, blessed VTP with another child who is none other than Sri AMP. Our acharyas say, “And that is why the works of AMP are so tough since he was born due to the grace of emperuman”. Emperuman has two qualities; he knows both nigraham and anugraham whereas our acharyas know only anugraham. If Swamy Manavala mAmunikal didn’t bless us with his vyakhyanams then surely none of us will be really able to even understand a single word in Acharya hrudhayam. So in our sampradayam an acharya holds a post higher than even bhagavan. Azhvar says, “neesanEn niraiondru milEn en kan pAsam vaiththa paramsudar jhOdhikkE”. According to adiyen the paramsudar jhOdhi is none other than adiyen’s acharya, HH Sri paramahamsEdyAdi Sri Vanamamalai kaliyan ramanuja Jeeyer swami who has uplifted this neecha jeevatma from drowning in the samsAra sAgaram, by his nirheduka krupai. What else, other than acharya krupai could have got adiyen to the memory of Smt. Nappinai as one among the bhagavatas? Even the Azhvars want to put them amongst the bhagavata ghosti. Thondaradipodi azhvar in his Thirupalliezhuchi says, “thondaradi podi ennum adiyanai aliyanendraruli vun adiyArkku AtpaduththAi” So what a great palasruthi it is? Kulasekara azhvar literally cries not knowing when he will join the bhagavata ghosti. But adiyen has got the same so easily. “sanakAdhiyar pala yOgam seidhu sAdhiththadhai punidha mAdhE elidhil pera enna thavam seidhanai” wonders one kavi. But adiyen need not wonder as adiyen knows hundred percent it is only due to the grace of our acharyan. One kavi humoursly told emperuman, “Oh! Lord, you are a-nathai”. Emperuman didn’t know how to react. Yes he is sarva sakthan, sarva sankalpan but does he have a Nathan (Protector or Master)? So surely he is anathai and that is why he wanted to atleast have a father and a mother during his avathara kalam. But we are all blessed with “matha pitha uvadhayahas thanayA vibuthi sarvam” “thandhai nattrAi thanayar endhanakku neeyE ethirAsa”. More than the happiness adiyen received on seeing Smt.Nappinai’s mail, adiyen’s happiness reached its height as adiyen received this reward during this time. Our swamy’s thirunakshatram kArthigaiyil pooram is right round the corner (18th Nov 2003). Shouldn’t more jeevatmas like adiyen get uplifted? So let us all pray for the long living of swamy for many many more years. As you all know swamy is filled with utmost sowlabhyam. Emperuman himself gets his greatness not because of his parathvam but because he is filled with sowlabhyam. That very sowlabhyam is a characteristic guna of all acharyas but with our swamy it is beyond words. That is why swamy not stopping with blessing shisyas in Vanamamalai, travels from one place to another frequently to bless all his shisyas all over India and now his voice travels even to US through the telebridge to remove the agnana (ignorance) in our minds and make all of us true vaishnavites. Swamy emperumanar did a revolution by giving the divine rahasya arthas to all who were interested irrespective of his acharya’s words to keep it as a secret. Now our swamy is following the path of emperumanar as shown by Swamy Manavala mAmunikal and Swamy ponnadikkAl Jeeyer to shower the divine arthas even without seeing the faces of the shisyas but with only the interest in the disciples mind as the necessary qualification. So we are all very much indebted to the great acharya who is ever ready to clear all our (even very very silly) doubts. Swamy is filled with jnanam and anushtanam. He holds the torch of Srivaishnavism handed over from Swamy mAmunikal thro Ponnadikkal swamy and 29 other jeeyers and finally passed on to swamy till today for the welfare of each one of us. Let us all chant the vazhi thirunamam of swamy on his thirunakshatram and always and pray to the divine couples to bless us with such an acharya for many many more years. “seer thigazhum mangai nagar sirakka vandhOn vAzhiyE kArthigaiyil pooraththil vudhiththa vallal vAzhiyE pArpugazhum pAdiyaththai parindhuraippOn vAzhiyE panmozhiyil tamizh maraiyai pagaravallOn vAzhiyE A-rar ethirAsaradi Eththumavan vAzhiyE eramAnusan thAlinaiyai adaiyindhuvuindhOn vAzhiyE pArpughazhum bhattarpiran aruludaiyOn vAzhiyE emkaliyan Enai adigal enidhoozhi vAzhiyE. vAzhi kalikandri mAmunivan vankazhalgal vAzhi varaipuyamum mukkOlum vAzhiyE enthai bhattarpiranin pAngarulAl mAranthan senthamizh tErindhu vuraikkum seer.” On this divine occasion adiyen would like to request, all the Srivaishnavas going through this mail who are yet to get initiated (samAsrayanam) to do it immediately. Thirumazhisai azhvar says, “andru nAn pirandhilEn pirandha pin marandhilEn” So till we get the sambhandam of an acharya we are equal to being not born and after that the athma gunas of our acharyas will fill our heart that it will never slip our memory. So my humble request to all of you is not to waste time or wait for it to happen. It is our prime duty to undergo samAsrayanam immediately at any cost. As a Srivaishnava we should never enjoy anything alone “koodiyirindhu kulirindhu”. So adiyen just wanted to share adiyen’s anubhavam and make all of you obtain the same great reward. “Acharyan thiruvadiyil thalai allAl kainkamArilEnE” Alwar EmperumAnAr Jeeyer thiruvadigalE sharanam Jeeyer thiruvadigalE sharanam Adiyen ramanuja dAsee Sumithra Varadarajan Protect your identity with Mail AddressGuard
