Guest guest
Dear Nappinnai, The reference to the age of Seetha devi during her marriage is seen in ramayana while seetha explains about her marriage to anasooya devi. She says that her father janaka got submerged in the ocean of worry since she has reached the age of 5 and still he wasnt able to arrange for her marriage. Sri rama comes to mithila after finishing the task of sage vishvamitra. While Vishvamitra went to the court of dhasharatha to request him to send rama and lakshmana to safeguard his yaga from the asuras dhasharatha refuses saying, "oonashOdasha varushOmE ramO rajeeva lOchana:" from where it is said that rama hasnt yet attained the age of 16 which implies that he should be around 15. It is said by our acharyas that in those days marriage was done only to a bridegroom who was 3 times the age of the bride (those were the age of early marriage). Adiyen request learned bhagavatas to through more light on this matter. Guest guest
Sri: Appan ThiruvadigalE Saranam I may be wrong about the age, but according to Sri Velukkudi Krishnan Swamin's lectures on Ramayan Tanislokam few years back, I remember swami mentioning that the age of Sri Sitadevi and Sri Rama were 6 and 12, respectively, at the time of their wedding.... adiyEn Venkatesh ramanuja, sumithra varadarajan <sumivaradan> wrote: > Dear Nappinnai, > > The reference to the age of Seetha devi during her marriage is seen in ramayana while seetha explains about her marriage to anasooya devi.
