Apologize ! ====================================================================== Srimathe Ramanujaya Nama: Sri Ramanuja's Sharanagati Gadyam by U.Ve. Dr. Sri M.A. Venkatakrishnan Swamy Time: Saturday, February 14, 2004, 9 AM CST. Bridge# : 1-702-835-5000 code : 91544# ==================================================== Come listen to what 'SHARANAGATI' means ! ==================================================== Swamy will start with the slokam and explain the meanings line by line. Sri MAV Swamy's explanations from the vyakyaanams and simple metaphorical meanings keeps us totally involved to enjoy/understand the deep concepts in this great work. Please inform your friends, relatives and all those who might be interested. ===================================================== Excerpts from the last upanyasam- Bhakti and Prapatti ===================================================== Last month Sri MAV Swami continued with the avatarikai of this great work. He went into detail of how the concept of bhakti can be easily explained to all but prapatti is hard to explain. Please note that Swamy Sri Ramanuja did NOT perform Sharanagati for the second time when HE composed this gadyam. It was only smaranam (chanting/contemplating) on the sharanagati already done, just like alwar did in the Tiruvaimozhi. He did it for us so we can undertstand the concepts. Here is a concise comparison of Bhakti and Prapatti. Eligibility and niyamaas (adikaara) Bhakti: The individual has to learn the meaning (if eligible) and constantly make an effort to continue. Prapatti: Anybody at anytime in any state can perform prapatti Ease of practice (sukaram) Bhakti: Difficult to practice. Periods of gap may occur Prapatti: Easier Fruit (phalam) Bhakti: Does not give phalam immediately. All karmas have to be experienced Prapatti: Immediate phalam. The aartha prapanna gets it instantly, the drpta prapanna at the end of his/her life time. Karmas Bhakti: Person needs to experience the effect of all the karmas Prapatti: Person needs to complete only his/her current life praarabdhas Mistakes Bhakti: Any mistakes could result in problems Prapatti: Since HE is the upayam, there are no problems Effort (saadhyam) Bhakti: Person has to put effort to make it happen Prapatti: This is siddam-ready made Nature of soul (Swaroopa) Bhakti: Making an effort to reach the Lord is against the true nature of the soul Prapatti: Accepting HIM as the means/goal is the true nature of the soul ================================================== Azhvar Emperumanaar Jeeyar Thiruvadigalee Sharanam adiyen ramanuja dasan ==================================================
