Excerpts from the last upanyasam

(Second sloka: Paramaarthika - - - - - - - -)

After surrendering to the Tiruvadi (lotus feet)of Thaayaar (as Purushakara) in

the first sloka, Swamy Sri Ramanuja goes on to explain the reason and nature of

this surrender/prayer.

In the second sloka He says that this sharanagati needs to be true/real (and not

just for show). It should be with no obstacles (avirataasthu). The phalam

(fruit) is only nitya kainkaryam(like alwar says in TVM 3.3.1 (Oruvil

kaalamellaam - - -). The type of kainkarya needs to be Bhagawad anubhava - -

-oriented. It needs to be full of love/experience/emotions.

It should also be ananya prayoojana (without expecting any thing in return).

Swamy then goes on to explain the terms Parabhakti, Paragyaana and Paramabhakti.

 

Parabhakti:

Being happy to be with Emberuman, and sad to be away from Him (maanasika-in the

mind).(Alwar's TVM 1.1.1 upto 10.8.11 pashurmas)

 

Paragyaana:

Pratyaksha (seeing Him all the time)(Alwar's TVM 10.9.1 to 11)

 

Paramabhakti:

Cannot stay separated from Him at any time (state of aarthi)(Alwar's TVM 10.10.1

to 11)

 

It should be noted that the ruchi/vishwasam for this kainkaryam is not a

saadhana. It is only a factor to perform kainkarya. It needs to be Aikaanthika

(only one) and Aatyantika (nitya/endless).

 

Thaayaar answers to this prayer: Asthu thee - - - -. She tells Swamy that this

will be granted to Him and all His sambandhis (everyone related to Him).

 

Now Swamy goes on to perform sharanagati at the Tiruvadi (Lotus feet) of the

Lord. Akilaheeya pratyaneeka- - - - - . He goes on to explain the divine

qualities of the Lord. The Lord is flawless in every aspect. He is above all.

He can be all pervasive (kaala-time, desha-place, vasthu-thing) simultaneously.
