But, everyone were samsAris; Just as AzhvAr was immersed in bhagavad anubhavam, the others were very immersed in material things; On seeing all the samsAris wasting away their lives, AzhvAr could not keep away/quiet. He wondered how he could change the samsAris. nammAzhvAr thought - "These people are intelligent sentient beings; they are capable of thinking about what is good and what is bad and take only the good things in material life; They are applying their mind to things such as fruits and vegetables are are determining what is good and what is bad; they are failing to think beyond that; maybe if I explain to them the inherent goodness of bhagavad vishayam, and the inherent badness of the material things, they will think about the truth and they may leave the things that needs to be left and will adopt the good things that needs to be adopted; so, let us do the upadEsa of what is good and what is bad". He explains (i) the goodness of emperumAn (ii) the fleetingness and worthlessness of the material things that the samsAris are going after and exhorts the samsAris to leave their attachment to the material things and develop bhakti towards emperumAn.
