A new satellite television channel in English, Sri Vaishnava Channel, is to be launched on January 5 to propagate the philosophy of Sri Ramanuja. P. Sundararajan, one of the promoter-directors said that initially the channel would function as a joint venture with Sanskar channel, New Delhi, till it gets its own transponder. The channel is the brainchild of Sri Prasanna Venkatacharyar Chaturvedi Swami. Its goal is to spread the Vaishnavic dharma and culture as followed by rishis and sages for thousands of years, and to achieve a worldwide resurgence in `Sri Vaishnavism' by reviving, restoring and rejuvenating the Vaishnava heritage. The channel will cover exhaustively the `Sthalapuranas' of all ``108 Divya Desams', holy places for Vaishnavites. It will cover all the important celebrations and utsavams conducted in the temples and bring the `Utsavamurthys' of far-away temples to the drawing hall. The channel will portray stories from Srimad Bhagavatham, Ramayanam and Mahabharatham and also serialise the biographies and anecdotes from the lives of the legendary Alwars, Acharyas and rishis. Thematic dance presentations from Vaishnava epics and Puranas will be presented. Musical compositions of saints such as Thyagaraja and Purandharadasa and devotional `Abhangs' and Bhajans by saints from the North rendered by renowned artistes.
