Guest guest
The Big Debate yEathiyiruppAr vs maRRavarai sAthiyiruppAr Continuing on the preceding posting regarding thiurmangai mannan toeing the line of the devotees in place of tailing the Lord, in the thiur-mozhi 'nanAdhA' 2-6: sri periya-vAchAn piLLai questions the efficacy of being devoted to those devoted to sriman nArAyaNA. Having questioned so, he himself replies that this devotion is 'fail-proof' even if compared to that of the devotion to the Lord. He quotes the nAn-mugan thiruvandhAdhip pAsuram "mARAya thAnavanai vAL -vugiRAl, mArbiraNdu kURAga kERiya kOL Ariyai, vEARAga yeAthiyiruppArai vellumEa, maRRavarai sAthiyiruppAr thavam" 18. yEathiyiruppAr- The srEvaishNavites who are deeply devoted to the Lord. Those who are like sri periyAzhwAr who are anxious and concerned about the welfare of the Lord. This is what is meant by 'vEARAga yEathi-iruppar'---> Those who are concerned and anxious about the welafare of the Lord. maRRavar: Those who do not worship the Lord directly but through the srEvaishNavic devotees. Like madhura-kavigaL, like vaduga-nambi, like sathrugnAzhwAn. yEathiyiruppArai vellumEa maRRavarai sAthi-iruppAr thavam: The benefits attained by those who follow the srEvaishNavites rather than the Lord are greater is the final word on this aspect. Conclusion: Therefore, it is in fact fool-proof and fail-proof to be devoted to those srEvaishNavites who are devoted to the Lord. srEvaishNava dAsan vanamamalai padmanabhan
