Jayasree ji, 'thiryak' is the jangamam (birds/animals) whose back-bone(spinal cord) is horirizontal (parallel to the earth). While the back-bones of us - human beings - is Urdhvam - Vertical. However, aDiyEn is wondering how the micro-organisms(bacteira/virus) are classified. dAsan Mukundan

Those who have put science into Indian languages have called the animals which do not have a spine as akaSErukams (right from the sinle-celled amoeba up to star fish) and those which have it as sakaSErukams. If studies in vernacular are promoted at least up to high school, all these questions would not arise. Also there will be less mental burden on the kids. At the same time, what justice we r doing to English? I have heard words as bad as "worthable", from even highly educated people. adiyEn rAmAnuja dAsan Vishnu > > However, aDiyEn is wondering how the micro-organisms (bacteira/virus) are classified. > > dAsan > Mukundan > > > >
