Due to our purva janma sukrutam and acharya kripa we are able to enjoy listening

about mAmunigaL. Kannan says that people who think of Me always and talk about

Me among themselves, feel happy. People who speak and people who listen are both

happy. They spend their time doing this. In the world it is rare to find a

listener when one speaks and rare to find a speaker when one wants to listen.

Hence the congruence of sri vaishanvas is very special. It is our great bhagyam

to have the anubhavam of mAmunigaL vaibhavam. mAmunigaL was given to us as a

special pearl by Emberuman to remove our "darkness".

We can say that we remember our previous janmas. How? When a child is born and

hungry it cries and feeds on mother's milk. This is an instinct carried from

poorva janma. We are being born again and again due to thinking of shabdaadi

vishayam(sense objects) resulting in kaamam which in turn results in krodham for

not getting it which then results in moham, subsequently mind becoming weak,

resulting in buddhi naasham which then results in ajnaanam resulting in papa

karmas leading to re-birth time and again. Punyam is not any different..it is

being bound in gold handcuffs whereas paapam is being bounded by iron handcuffs.

When an atma reaches yama lOka he is asked - why the atma did not worship

Keshava (klEsha naashana:). Even when the word Narayana exists, how is it that

jeevAtmAs come to hell, wonders Yama. When we have a tongue and the word

nArAyaNa , why do we end up in naraka?(Naavinaal namo naranaa - - - - -may be

recalled here).

As srivaishnavas we should always think of Alwar Emberumanar Jeeyar. All our

acharyas think of Emberumanar all the time - Emberumanar tiruvadigale tanjam.

Prapannas should not take anything as an upayam to reach Him. Even though

Varadaraja Perumal said prapatti is an upayam to Tirukacchi Nambigal, he means

that taking HIS tiruvadi as upayam is the meaning of prapatti. We should take

Emberumanar's tiruvadi as upayam as HE is Udaiyavar (ruler of both Nitya and

Leela vibhutis). This is the easiest way to attain paramapadam. When the lion

jumps from a hill to another, the bugs in the hair of the lion do not make any

effort. They automatically get transferred to the other side. Similarly we

will get transferred to paramapadam with Emberumanar sambandham. Our achAryAs,

foremost of them being mAmunigaL, therefore always had EmberumAnAr in their

minds...how does Erumbiappa know what was in mAmunigAL's mind?..As already said

earlier, a true shishya knows the mind of a sadAchAryan.

Sloka 19/20/21

Bruthyaiyee - - - -Emberuman says that He enjoys if the bhaktas have bhaagawata

seshatvam more than having bhagawad seshatvam (nedumaarkku adimai - - -).

nammAlwAr and all other AlwArs refer to bhAgavatha sheshatwam umpteen number of

times in their prabhandhams. Emberumanar says in this samsaram tree there are 2

fruits namely Bhagawad bhakti and BhAgawata bhakti. Bhagawad bhakti is to be

resorted to only when bhAgawatas are not available for tiru-arAdhana. Swamy

Alavandar wants to be an insect in a srivaishnava's home. He does not want the

position of Chaturmuka Bramha. In Yatiraja Vimshati mAmunigaL asks that he

wants to have bhakti towards the bhAgawatAs. The same is reflected in

Mukundamala "tat bruthya bruthya - - - -". In Srimad Ramayanam Shatrugna

followed Bharata to his maternal grandfather's place. He did not have the

"paapam" of Sri Rama bhakti. How can rAma bhaksthi be "pApam"?! PVP swamy says

that Shatrugna had so much bhaagawata seshatvam. Sometimes Emberuman's

tirumeni soundaryam comes in the way of our kainkaryam as we swoon seeing HIS

tirumeni. Shatrugna did not have this problem at all as he was engrossed in

kainkaryam towards Bharata. Similary mAmunigaL sishyas have so much love for

Him.

Anyone who has surrendered to Kovil Annan should be taken as parama bhaagawatas.

PBA tanian first part was given by mAmunigaL which has Swamy Vedanta Desika's

tirunamam and then the second part has mAmunigaL's tirunamam written by PBA

Himself. mAmunigaL had great respect for Swamy Vedantachariar.

mAmunigaL says nothing is as great as SVB divya shAstram.

Once two dogs were fighting and at the same time two srivaishnavas were fighting

with each other. mAmunigaL went to the dogs and asked if they learnt SVB from

him which might be reason they had a doubt and that is why they were fighting

like that. ImAmunigaLediately the srivaishnavas realized their mistake. He would

even correct others in a gentle manner using his special persuasive skills for

which he was known as vishadavaak sikamani.

Namperumal has the special name 'padinnum paada perumal'. Once when an areyar

swamy went to tiruvengdam he wanted to listen to the areyar. As a habit he said

padinnum paadiya peruman. Tiruvengadamudiyan said that tondaradipodi spoiled

this chance. Similary when madhurakavi started Emberuman was excited to listen

to him. But madhurakavi says "nil" to Him ...Yennappanil (split as yenappa nil -

- refers to Emberuman to stand still- this is to be taken in lighetr vein!).

Madhurakavi says he knows nobody other than Nammalwar. Just as Nammalwar

experienced Emberuman, Madhurakavi experienced NammmAlwar in ten special ways.

Vilaancholai pillai is shishya of PLC. Here he says that the one who shows us

the nava vidha sambandham (pita cha raksha ka sesi - - -) with Emberuman and the

atma is the acharya. Here When the bartha relationship is discussed,

Emberumanar's incident of being in the rain when Nampperumal entered the Siva

alayam is remembered here. Swamy said that Emberuman can go any where. But the

jeevAtma being the "patni" (pativrata) does not go to others which in this case

is devataantaram sambandham.

In SVB when discussing the greatness of an acharyan and sishyan PLC says that if

the acharya is interested in the kainkaryam that the shishya does to him or

shishya's wealth, then it would be wrong. The thought that the samashrayanam is

being done for the redemption of the shishya is also wrong. The acharya should

have in his mind the only goal that the sishya as being able to do kainkaryam to

Emberuman. During does samashrayanam he says

that he represents the hand of His acharya in getting the sishya towards

Emberuman with the grace of HIS acharya. Due to the upadesha the sisya becomes

interested in doing mangalasasnams to the acharya.

Sloka 22/23

mAmunigaL would go with his shishyas for Periya Perumal kanikaryam.

(The four main DDs: Kovil, Tirumalai, Perumal Kovil, Tirunarayanapuram. These

names have not been changed with time in sampradayam). The gopuram itself is a

nitya suri.The vimanas and prakaras of Kovil are praised.

Sloka 24/25

First He does mangalasasanams to ANdal. She has no match in sampradayam and

neither Her Tiruppavai.

All acharyas talk about the greatness of Andal. She is the daughter of the "Anja

kudikku oru santadiyaay - - - (alwar kudi)".

Mangalasasanam: Like "attattin patthaa naal - - -10 days from Hasta

(so Kamsa cannot find out the nakshtram of Kannan).

The 10th day after Hasta is Rohini and 10th day before Hasta is Sravanam

-Tiruvonam. He said this because he wanted to protect Kannan (mangalasasanams).

Swamy Vedantachariar says Kannan sucked the life of Putana. All the people ran

and were worried about Kannan. At this time Nanda Gopan removed drishti for

Kannan.

When people (with deha-atmabhimanam) are compared to the rishis the latter are

like parvatam - hills and the rest are like atoms; when rishis are compared to

alwars, alwars are like mountains and rishis are like atoms; alwars when

compared to perialwar, PeriAlwAr is a mountain and other alwars are like atoms;

perialwar when compared to AndAL, AndAL is like a mountain and PeriAlwAr is like

an atom. Such is the greatness of AndAL.

URM: "Inno Tiruvaadippooram - - - "

Goda Stuti: Because of Andal's Poomaalai and Paamaalai Emberuman becomes so

happy that he gives everything we need. Swamy Vedantachariar says all rivers

should come and cleanse themselves in Godavari.

Because Godavari has the name Goda she is so special. When Sita was carried

away by rAvaNa she tells Godavari to convey the message to Rama that Ravana

abducted her. But due to the fear of rAvaNa

Godavari never said a word to Rama where as Yamuna was right there in Mathura

but was not scared of Kamsa (that's why "tooya peruya neer - - ").

Even such a Godavari became great because she has 'Goda' in her name!

Then mAmunigaL does mangalashasanams to Yatipati(Emberumanar) who became the

elder brother of ANdaL having fulfilled AndAL's "noor thada" wish at

Tirumaalirincholai by offering hundred pots of akkAravadishil per her

thitherto-unfulfilled wish.

 

Next mAmunigaL does mangalashanams to nammAlwar. Madhurakavi says he knows

Emberuman only because of nammAalwar. Like Tripura devi...when somebody asked

her the reason why she worshipped Sriman Narayana as para daivam, she said she

knew no veda nor sastra ... She just followed Emberumanar's direction...if

EmberumAnAr had said someone else was paradeivam she would have done

accordingly...All three namely AnDAL, MadhurakavigaL, and EmberumAnAr showed

charamaparva nishtai.

Then mAmunigaL does mangalasanams to the PranavAkAra Vimanam. Vaikuntam has

become Sri Ranga Mandiram. The great vimanam worshipped by chakravarthi

Tirumagan and then by Vibeeshanan. Finally he does mangalasasnams to Senai

Mudaliyar (viswaksEnaR), Periya Tiruvadi (Garudar), Taayaar, Perumal and Alwars.
