Guest guest
Sri: Srimathe Ramanujaya Nama: Dear Sri Kesavan, The same question was asked to Nampillai by a person. He asked "Why is that Srivaishnavas do not worship other devatas in their temples, but perform homas and rituals where devatas such as Agni and Indra are prayed to?". Nampillai replied "Even though fire is the same, is there not a difference between the fire used for rituals and the fire used for cremation? Similarly, there is a difference between the two things you are asking. Srivaishnavas perform these rituals because they are determined to be done, in the Vedas. They recite the mantras with the understanding that the prayers go to Sriman Narayana who is the antaryami of these devatas. However, the temples for these devatas are established through agamas that make them to be the supreme Lord and sometimes even make Sriman Narayana as a secondary devata. Therefore, Srivaishnavas do not worship there." Hope this clarifies. adiyEn madhurakavi dAsan --- blazee7 <sathupadikesavann wrote: > dear bagavathas > i have a doubt regarding braranayasam > if i do baranayasam "i should completely surrender my > self to lord narayana. > i should not worship other devathas" this is the meaning > am i right. > then > How is it correct to chant the gayatri mantra as an > brahmin while doing sandhaya vandanam?. > plz can any one of u clarify me this doubt. > thank you. > adiyen > kesavan > Mail - now with 250MB free storage. Guest guest
Dear Sri Kesavan, Please note that Gayathri mantra is in praise of "Savitr" meaning the supreme being who is nothing but SrimanNarayana. The term "Gayathri" is attributed to Chandas and not any Devata. So do not hesitate to chant Gayathri mantra. I tried my best to clarify your doubt. My applogies if I am wrong. Guest guest
Here it is again worth noting Acharya Bhattar's opinion on chanting (japam). He says niyama viSEshavan mantrAdi Avartnam is japam or repeating mantras etc. with some principles attached. A brahmin is still considered a brahmin if he does japam (chanting), whether he does other karmas or not, says Bhattar quoting from Manusmrti. What one has to chant? stuvan nAma sahasrENa - clarifies Bhattar, thousands of names of the Lord which glorify His qualities. Then why ashtAksharI japam is not prescribed in Ramanuja sampradayam? One may get a doubt. It is a single mantra and meaning is available. So it is convenient to concentrate on the meaning. In case of stOtras like vishNu sahasranAma, somebody has to be an Eisnstein to understand and chant simultaneously. In such cases, remembering them repetitively gives confidence and is convenient. jIyar thiruvadihaLE SaraNam adiyEn rAmAnuja dAsan Vishnu ramanuja, "Mohan Ramanujan" <mohan_ramanujan@r...> wrote: > Dear Sri Kesavan, > > Please note that Gayathri mantra is in praise of "Savitr" meaning the supreme being who is nothing but SrimanNarayana.
