Dear Sriman Padmanbhan Swami,

when I was in USA for sometime in 1986 I came across a monthly magazine

published from Hawai which proclaimed on the front page heading that "The

Natural Religion of Tamil people is Saiva Siddhanta". Being unaware of the

contents of ancient Tamil books like Tolkappiam I really wondered if that

was not a false statement especially when we know about our Divya

Prabandham. Its contribution to Vishnu Bhakti and Bhakti in general cannot

be over stated. The Bhasha Abhimanam of the Alwars and our Vaishnava

Acharyas shines through the texts of the Divya Prabandham and other works

like the rays of Sun at its brightest hour. The lopsided version of religion

in Tamil Nadu should be combated against and I am happy to know about the

yeomen service rendered in this direction by persons of emeinent standing

and scholarship like Puthur Swamy. No wonder our great Acharya Emberumanar

elevated the Status of Divya Prabandhams to that of the Vedas. That very act

alone is the last word in this controversy. Continue to educate us with your

excellent articles.
