Guest guest
Narayana Narayana The Lord continued, "Although a Brahmana learns all the parts of Veda viz., Shiksha, Vyakarana, Chandas, Nirukta, Jyotisha and Kalpa, and all the four Vedas along with them, he shall not be considered dear to me, if he neglects the Dravida Vedam. Just as a person is initiated into Brahmanya with shodasha karma and samskritha Veda patham, so will a person attain Vaishnavatvam (will be called as a Sri Vaishnava) by undergoing the Pancha samskaaram and learning the Dravida Vedam. During my Aradhanam, Yatra and Mahotsavam, Dravida Vedas should be chanted. Only then will I be satisfied with the kainkaryam. Let your language -Tamil- be untouched by Viswakarma's curse. I have given such a high preference to your mother tongue. Viswakarma spelt two more curses on you. Is it not? Let those curses affect you only once in your life time, and that will also be for the welfare of all the Devas and Brahmanas. Just as Agni remains untouched by any faults although he consumes anything and everything he gets, so will you remain pure, faultelss, although you will be affected by the curse. This was already decided by me long ago. This is my promise to you. So, don't you worry at all." Having spoken thus, the Lord returned to Parama Padam, just as Agastya beheld the divine form with eyes wide open with excitement, and tears filled in them. Agastya was happy that he was freed from the curses. He then performed Aradhanam to Sri Srinivasa Perumal at that place and continued his journey southwards, to Malaya mountains. I would like to add a point here. It is usually said that Tamil Vedam is more sacred than the original Vedas. That is because the Vedas teach a man about all the three gunas (sathwa, rajas and tamas). But the Dravida Vedas teach only sathwic qualities, and thus Sriman Narayanan likes the Tamil Vedam more than the original samskritha Vedas. This is shown in most of the temples beautifully, during Utsavams. The Goshti chanting the Tamil Vedas go in front of the Lord, and those chanting the samskritha Vedas follow the Lord. This clearly shows that those who follow the samskritha Vedas have to go in search of the Lord, where as Narayana himself goes in search of those who chant the Tamil Vedas. This is the reason why all Sri Vaishnavas chant the Tamil Vedas. I hope this topic has interested all Bhagavathas. I shall write more about the Lord residing at Terakanambi, and about the place in the forth coming mails. They shall appear under the title "Sri Dakshina Sheshadri". (concluded) Srinivasa Rajan Ramanuja Dasan.
