Guest guest
dear devotees, Here is an update on vedics activities related to helping people affected by the tsunami Update from the field: (i) Our volunteers have visited affected areas near cuddalore, chidambaram and chennai; they report that immediate food/clothing needs are being met very well by local organizations/people; for example, in the chidambaram area, the local medical college has taken over the task of providing food to the affected. (ii) The key immediate need is temporary shelter; people do not have a dry place with a roof to stay in many places; (iii) Longer term rehabilitation projects are very necessary - help with rebuilding houses, buying household items (kitchen utensils etc.), books/notebooks for children etc. Vedics is working with local villagers and local officials in a village near chidambaram to investigate building a temporary shelter; a local person has agreed to allow the use of his land for this purpose, and the local people want this as a first priority; the very preliminary estimate is that this will cost around 1.5 lakh rupees, and we are going to do this. Vedics will take up the task of providing rehabilitation help for a few families, at the least; the cost of resettling a family is estimated around Rs.70-75,000 (50,000 for house with hall, room, kitchen, toilet; 15,000 for utensils/stove/clothes/books etc.; 10,000 for temporary support till the family gets their livelihood back). For more details on these, and on information on how you can help, please visit http://vedicstsunamiproject.blogspot.com .
