Guest guest
PERUMBHUDHUR MAMUNIKKU PINNANAL VAZHIYE In the previous mail we enjoyed the first few lines of Andal's Tiruppavai 4th song, which is addressed to her brother Sri Ramanujar, now, let us continue how her song speaks about Ramanujar from the following verse… "OZHI MUDALVAN URUVAM POL MEI KARUTHU… By this verse Andal draws out the Avatara Rahasyam of Swami Emperumanar. Swami is incarnation of Tiru Anantalvar, (Who is inseparable of Lord and an ever subservient of Lord.) Tiru Antantalvar being a serpent is white in colour, but as he is ever in association with Lord the blue colour of Lord reflects on him and he appears black (dark). Sri Parasara Battar's Sri Rangarajastavam is remembered in this context, where-in Battar gives a description of Vimanam - " Tiru Antanalvar himself stands as the Vimanam of Ranganatha, the vimanam has to be white in colour but the shadow of Lord falls on the Vimanam , and the Vimanam also appears dark like the Kariya tirumeni udayan (Emperuman). In this song, Andal describes about her brother Ramanujar, she describes his colour- Ozhi Mudalvan Uruvam pol mei karuth. Where in she means that , Though Ramanujar was by birth white in colour yet appears dark as the dark coloured Lord resides in him so prominently that even he appears dark like Lord. Then "PAZHIYAN THOLOUDAYA PARPANAPAN KAI IL AAZHI POL MINNI VALAM PURI POL NINDRATHEERTHU" Through the above verse also she speaks about the Avatara Rahasyam of Sri Ramanujar. In the Ramanuja Nootrandhadhi in the 33rd song "Adayar Kamalthualar Makal Kezhvan Kai azhi ennum Padai odu…" and in the Yatiraja Saptathi "VRUTHE PANCHAPRAYUTHAIR MURARE HE.." Swami Ramanujar is described as the incarnation of the five divine weapons of Lord. thus the same is conveyed by Andal in by the above verse. It may even be understood like this, the disc (Sudarshana chakaram – Aazhi ) of Lord is known for chasing his enemies / evil doers, and shall destroy them in their place itself. Swami can also be called as incarnation of the Sudarshana Chakara of Lord as he has also performed similar act, i.e he chased and conquered all those who gave wrong interpretation of Vedas and some of them preached about non-vedic religion. Swami Ramanujar ,was so swift like the disc of Lord which furiously attacked the opponents. The Sri Bashyam of Swami Ramanujar is best example of how he had conquered his opponents with their own statements. Alvar's Tiruvrtham pasuram is recollected in this context "ARULAR TIRU CHAKKARATHAL AKAL VISUMBUM NILANUM VINAI KEDA SENKOL NADAVUDHEER"(SONG NO,33rd song ) Just as the Chakaratalvar (Sudarshana Disc ) protects the two vibuthis (Nitya vibuthi and leela vibhuthi i.e. , the two worlds – one in earth and the other in sky) Like wise Swami Ramanujar holds the two Vibhuthis viz. the Dravida Vedam and Sanskrit Vedas in his hand . This is also one of reason for calling him as Udayavar ( one who possess..) VALAMPURI POL NINDRU ADIRNTHU…." The conch of Lord which announced the big battle , the sound of the conch was so terrific that it frightened / scared the Kauravas. Here the Voice of Ramanujar is described as the Conch , which is equally alarming voice, which threatens his opponents (Mayavadhis and the leaders of non-vedic religion, In the Ramanuja Nuttrandadhi 99th song "TARKKA SAMANARUM SAKKIA PEIKALUM TAZHSATAIYON SOKKATRA SOMBARUM SOONIYAVADARUM NANMARAYUM NIRKKA KURUMBU SEI, NEESARUM MANDANAR…." The unique quality of Swami Ramanujar is described in this verse. Andal describes the conch as one which is in separable from Lord and describes it as one which has ever association with the honey filled lips of Lord. Swami Ramanujar was also blessed by Lord Ranganatha himself that he shall stay in Sri Rangam until death by chanting thie Dvaya mantra. Just like the conch of Lord Ramanujar is also blessed for an ever association with Lord (Sri Ranga Vasam ) and to spend the days by enjoying the honey , honey is the Dvaya Mantra as it is everlasting honey , "DVAYAM ARTHANUSANDANENA SAHA SADA EVAM VAKTA YAVAT SARIRA PADAM ATHRAIVA SRIRANGE SUKAMASVA… (WORDS OF Lord Ranganatha – Saranagati Gadyam) Then the next verse- "TAZHADHE SARNGAMUDHAITHA SARAMAZHAI POL PEITHIDAI …VAZHA PEIDHIDAI There is a well known saying in Sanskrit that the Rain is a boon as well as a curse. –"TVAIE VARSHATHI PARJANNYA SARVE PALLAVITHA DRUMAHA ASMAK MARGA VRUKSHANAM PURVA BADRE CHU SAMSAYAHA…" Just like the rain which has been good sometimes and as well a curse . The Divya Sukthis of Ramanujar has been a boon and as well a curse. It is a boon to all the Sri Vaishnavas ,Mumukshu as it shows the path of salvation , It is a curse to all those who questions the presence of Lord and gives wrong interpretations to Vedas. The Life and Works of Swami Ramanujar has benefited many individuals as it is he who is regarded as prime Acaryan who is sure shelter and is one who can help the jiva in attaining the Lord's abode. Andal thus address to Emperumanar to Shower the Dravida and the Sanskrit Vedas to those desirous to learn the truth. This rain is described as one which is a blessing –Vazha ulakinil peidhiday. Then the Rain of curse is for those who oppose the Vedas and question the supremacy of Lord. "Sara mazhai.." a terrific rain of strong statements which shall destroy the non believers of Vedas/ wrong interpreters of Vedas. Here, Ramanujar's commentary to Bramma sutram is talked about – "Sri Bashyam" by which he has established the essance of Vedas and had condemned the statements of his opponents with their own verdicts. "In Ramanuja Nuttrandadhi Swami is described as Sangam … Adayar Kamalthu….." This means if Emperumanar lifts his eyebrows , ie. By his bewitching eyes he showers the knowledge to his devotees like Alvan , which enables them to pour out sri sukthis in praise of Lord. Ramanuja Nutrandadhi song is worth to quote in this context " KONDALAYA VANMAI ERARKUNATHU EMMI RAMANUSAR AVAAZHIL MARAIYIL SERATHAVARAI SIDAIPATHU APPODHU ORU SINDAI SEITHU…. With this it is clear that for the survival of the good , sri vaishnavas Emperumanar showered the divine sri sukthis. Then by the verse "NANGALUM MAKISHNDHU MARKAZHI NEERADHA…" The "Sacred bath ie. Margazhi Neeratam is conveyed in many places in Tiruppavi , let us now see the inner meaning of this verse "Margazhi Neeratam" The Sanskrit name of the tamil month Margazhi is MARGA SIRISHAM, ie. This month begins on new moon day ( Pournami) on the Miruga sirisham star. This fact is well known to all. Let us peep into it further , we shall get a valuable meaning for this term "Margazhi Neeratam. Margazhi is called in Sanskrit as Marga Sirisham. Margam means "WAY" Sirisham means " head / top" Thus it should be understood like this Margam means Upayam and Sirisham means head of upayam , ie. Top of all upayam. In the Sri Vachanabooshana Divya Sastram it is conveyed that devotion for Acaryan is the top path for salvation. >From this we infer that Acarya Abimanam is the Marga Sirisham. Andal addresses Emperumanar as one who leads to the path of Salvation, thus she prays to him to show the right path, which is Acarya Abimanam. Andal has quoted this path as the best means for salvation, It is inferred from her pasurams – Nachiyar Tirumozhi" She had conveyed that the Acarya Abimanam is the uttama margam to attain the abode of Lord. IT is Swami Ramanujar who showed us this right path and if we hold his pair of feet we are sure to attain salvation "UYYA ORE VAZHI UDAYAVAR TIRUVADI" >From the verses of Andal it is clear that if we surrender unto Acarya (Ramanujar) we are sure to attain salvation.
