Sir, we have Lord Sri LaxmiNarasimha swami's vigraham in our house, ofcourse purely because of His Divine Grace. My father wants to know whether the eclipses have any effect on the Divya Mangala Vigrahams, ie is it necessary to perform Thirumanjanam after each eclipse. Thanks in Advance. Jai Sreemannarayana
Guest guest
As far as I feel, it is not necessary to do any Thirumanjanam to any of the Vigrahams for any occassion, except as an offering of love, according to one's frame of mind. For example, grahanam does not warrant any naimittika karma such as abhishekam. Because, the creator of grahanam and such external happenings are only God Himself and so, He is not affected by these things. So, it is better to follow nithyakarmas daily. Naimithyka karmas are to be followed on special ocassions, such as the Jayanti days etc and other auspicious days. This purifies one's mind. Guest guest
SRIMATHE RAMANUJAYA NAMAHA Taking the age-old practices as cue and analysing them (for better understanding) with the information from ancient texts in the light of what we gather as inputs from modern science, grahana punya kaalam is not an occasion to be dreaded. Whatever happens by way of 'pollution' is to affect the digestive energy of individuals only. Or else it is about a rare occasion when pithrus can be offered oblations as a rare kind of offering. It is perhaps due to the fact that pithrus descend on such occasions for prolonged duartion, that all other vEdik activities are stopped or closed, and cleaning by water is done after they have left, as done when some one departs to the other world. The various stories related to grahanam being an inauspicious moment is perhapes attributed to the horrific spectacle that prevailed and perhaps continued for decades till the entire yadhava kingdom was washed off, as a result of or as a sequence of the solar eclipse that took place before the onset of Kurukshetra war when as against the usual movement, all the planets in teh sky went retrograde suddenly in big measures with Mars hopping precariously forward and backward, Rahu and Ketu going retrograde suddenly by 24* in the sky and the moon jumping over 2 days and (as a result) amavasya occurring just after dwadhasi! Terrific happenings that happened around that time as described by sage Vyasa, in chapters 2 & 3 of Bheeshma parva point out to either a sudden and violent change in the earth's tilt as effected by a terrific wobbling in its motion, which could have been a natural phenomenon in its motion or could have been effected by two supernova explosions witnessed just opposite to the Sun , in the constellation of Scorpio (as described by the sage). The events described by the sage though so terrific but are not clearly due to the eclipse, but some other cause. Otherwise nowhere else such happenings have been reported and here again these have not been associated with eclipse. But fear psychosis has overtaken and over a period of time eclipse has come to be associated with aspects not related to them.
