'Math' : Srimathe of Uttara Khandam

Let us continue with the Uttara Khandam: Srimate Naaraayanaaya

namaha

(8) Swamitvam -

This is the meaning of the word Narayana. He is supreme Lord owning both the

worlds. The context here is for rendering service. Therefore, it is for the

Lord. Service rendered to the Lord is interesting to Jeevan and is as per the

prayer.

(9) Prarthanam -

This explains the meaning of the fourth case ending 'aya' with the word Narayana

in the second sentence of Dwaya Manthram. This is the prayer to render service.

The prayer is to render service at all places, at all times and at all stages

as indicated by Swami Nammalwar. 'Ozivil kalamellam uda-nai manni vazuviala

adimai saiya-vendum). Jeevan has realised that he is subservient to only Lord

and none else. (Seshathvam). He had taken refuge at the lotus feet of Lord.

(Charanau Saranam). In the next step i.e. as a fruit of refuge he requests for

permission to render service. This prayer is indicated by the fourth case

ending with the word 'Narayana' (10) Prabala thara virodhi prahanam - The last

word of the Dwaya Mantram is 'namaha' is explained. We have seen in the

Thirumanthram that this word indicates removal of three kinds of obstacles.

(Swaroopa virodhi, Upaya virodhi and Prapya virodhi). But in this second

sentence of Dwaya Mantram which is devoted to the prayer for rendering service,

the meaning of the word is to remove 'kainkarya virodhi'. The kainkarya virodhi

is represented by the feeling of happiness by the Jeevan while rendering

service to Lord and Sri Mahalakshmi. Jeeven should not entertain hapiness for

himself while performing service. The service is for the happiness of Lord and

Lord alone. If Jeevan starts to enjoy service then it becomes 'prabala thara

virodhi'. Prahanam means removal. Thus the meaning of the word 'namaha' is

explained
