dear bhAgavathAs,

In the previous decade, the state of helplessness that the AzhvAr

achieved was very unusal (when compared to the state of everyone

else in the world).(please see

ramanuja/message/5869);

He became moved, without being even able to say any words; in such a

state of being moved by the kalyANa guNAs of the Lord, since it is

the norm that the Lord appears and makes the AzhvAr recover from the

state, the Lord came and did the same. Immediately, the state of

helplessness that the AzhvAr had went away. Now, AzhvAr, knowing that

talking about the Lord's saulabhyam will move him to the helpless

state again, talks about the all-supremeness (parathvam) of the Lord.

Even though AzhvAr sings about the parathvam of the Lord in the very

first thiruvAymozhi

(ramanuja/message/4020), there is a

difference between that and this decade in the following manner - in

the first thiruvAymozhi, AzhvAr sings about the parathvam of the Lord

to His own heart (thozhudu ezhu en mananE!). In this thiruvAymozhi,

AzhvAr sings about the parathvam in the mode of upadEsam to others.

In the first thiruvAymozhi, AzhvAr sings about the parathvam in the

manner of "THe Lord ONLY is all superior" - this approach is called

anvayam; in this thiruvAymozhi, AzhvAr sings about the parathvam in

the manner of "It is impossible for anything else other than the Lord

to be all supreme" - this approach is called vyathirEkham. In the

first thiruvAymozhi, AzhvAr's words generally align with the

upanishads; in this thiruvAymozhi, AzhvAr's words generally align

with the itihasas and purANAs. In the first thiruvAymozhi, AzhvAr

generally talks about the parthvam in the para form of the Lord; in

this thiruvAymozhi, AzhvAr talks about the parathvam in the vibhava

form of the Lord (in the avatArAs).

For those who are devoted towards the feet of nammAzhvAr, after

knowing the manner in which nammAzhvAr enjoyed the all-supremeness of

the Lord in His avatArAs and told that beautifully and strongly, the

effects of the bodily association will not accrue.
