Guest guest
each corner of the Srirangam limits. The north-eastern kATTu-azhakia-SinGar is the most ancient of these, being situated in a sprawling grove on the northern arm of the river, koLLiDam. This site is an intimate recall of the famed kUra-nArAyaNa jeeyar, the master townplanner who became the first Sriranga-nArAyaNa jeeyar within a few years of Sri Ramanuja's passing away, and the author of the majestic hymn, Sri-Sudarsana-Satakam. It occurred to the venerable jeeyar to consecrate a Lakshmi-narasimha on the northwest, and a Yoga-narasimha on the southwest. The two shrines were pulled down by the heretics and the two beautiful 'archA' forms are housed in the Grand Temple shrine of kUrat-AzhvAn. The jeeyar it was who also established the south-eastern 'teertha-k-karai' (=ODa-k-karai, by current identification) azhakia-SinGar sannidhi which can be described as a replication of the Grand Temple ('periya kOyil') of Srirangam itself. The worship deity ('mUla archA') is Sri Lakshmi-narasimha. The festive deity ('utsava mUrti') is Our Lord himself (nam-perumAL) with his two consorts ('ubhaya-nAicchimAr'). The shrine has good Naik period murals and flag-mast (dhvaja-stambham). This ODa-k-karai shrine compound is infested by slum squatters who had all set up without any apparent restraining from the Hindu Religious Endowment Department. (The shrine is as ill-administered and neglected as can be by the Department.) The present flooding would have forced out the squatters who have no title whatsoever to their camping inside of the shrine compound. This could perhaps be an opportune moment to get them permanently evacuated, so as to recover the temple property, and also to enhance the sanctity. (They can all be allotted 'housing' plots further downstream.) This would require a studied initiative of persons based in Chennai city, and with access to the HRE Dept. They could avail of the renowned scholarship and charisma of our savants like 'SrivaishnavaSri' A. Krishnamachar svami, Sri tiru-k-kOTTiyUr Madhavan svami, Sri Velukkudi Krishnan svami, and Sri M.A. Venkatakrishnan svami. Their hands are full, but their organised intervention would make a difference. aDiyEn rAmAnuja-dAsan, tirumanjanam Sundara Rajan. ramanuja "Sumithra Varadarajan" <sumivaradan > Mon, 28 Nov 2005 16:41:14 -0800 Re: [ramanuja] Sri Rangam According to what we heard Srirangam and namperumal are safe the floods have reached only amma mandapa turai.Adiyen ramanuja dAseesumithra Varadarajan Personals Single?
