Upadesa Ratthinamalai - Post 3

Swami Mamunikla has two very unique positions in the Acharya Parampara:

================================

=> That of being the Lord's Acharya.

=> Being the last of the Purvacharyas.

================================

=> That of being the Lord's Acharya.

 

The following points makes it clear that the Lord is taking Mamunikal

as his Acharya and, the Lord is also teaching us the qualities we need

to have as sishyas (follower of an acharya).

 

1. Sishya should make/chant thanian

(a sloka describing the greatness of one's acharya) for his Acharaya:

Lord Ranaganatha made a thanian and offerred it to HIS Acharaya swamy

Manavalamamunikal

 

"Srisailesa daya patram, dhibhakthyadi gunarnavam,

yatindra pravanam vande, ramya jamatharam munim||

 

Hence this thanian has its own importance in Sri Vaishnava sampradhaya.

 

2. Sishya's responsibility: Spread Acharaya's name and message to

every corner of the world, keeping the manthra in his heart.

Lord Ranganatha has instructed and sent ordinance,

to all his devotees and temples (divyadesams) to recite His Acharya thanian

at the beginning and end of Divyaprabhandham.

 

It is in practice in almost all of the sri Vaishnava DhivyaDesams even today.

 

3. Sishya should surrender his wealth to Acharya's Lotus Feet, (thiruvadi ):

Adisesha is considered as wealth for LORD Sriman Narayanan.

 

Lord Ranganatha has offered his entire wealth to his Acharya Swamy

Manavalamamuni.

Hence Swamy Manavalamamuni is seated in Adisesha.

 

Eventhough Swamy Ramanuja and Swamy Manavalamamuni are avatharam of

Adisesha, we always see Swamy Manavalamamuni in his Archa Avatahra,

Vigraha, or Pictures seated in Adisesha because the

Lord has offered his seat Adisesha to Swamy Manavalamamuni.

 

4. Sishya should have his Acharaya's name with his name:

====================================================

 

Swami Manavalamamuni took sanyasam from Sri Satakopa Jeeyar

Hence Swami MM wanted to change his name to Satakopa after his sanyasam.

But Lord Ranganatha appeared in front of him and instructed him not to change

his original

name Alagiya Manavalan.

 

This is because Lord Ranganatha wanted to adopt swami

Mamunigal as Acharya. And keep the name Azhagiya manavalan

[This is Lord Ranganatha’s local name in the south]

 

5. Sishya should celebrate his Acharaya's thirunakshathiram (Birth day) and

annual ceremony:

========================================================

Lord Ranganatha taught and is still practicing these five qualities in

Srirangam.

 

=> Being the last of the Purvacharyas.

================================

By Completing the Acharya haram, he gave the end to the Purvacharya

lineage. The Lord is the 1st and last in the Haram.
