In this prabandam Swami MM has very kindly documented the birth details

(star, month and place of birth) of all Azhvars as well as Sri Andal, Madurakavi

Alwar and Swami Emperumanar.

Perhaps in his own time he must have observed that these details are distorted

and were the topic of controversy. In order dispel all such doubts for all time

to come

he felt the need for including the particulars in a ‘grantha’ which were

hitherto guarded

by hearsay.

 

Incidentally, Swami MM has put the speciality of each Azhvar and the special

meanings enshrined

in their works in this prabandham. Thus the inner meanings of Thirumanthram,

such as ‘ananyarha seshatwam’(the subservience to Lord Sriman Narayanan only),

is reflected in this work. He has also glorified the arulicheyal (4000 Dhivya

prabhanam)

commentaries by various Acharyas and the un-parallel works

of "Rahasya Arthas’ by Swami Pillai Lokacharyar for our benefit.

 

The beauty of explaining the philosophy expounded by Swami Nammalwar,

i.e. the glory of devotion to Lord (prathama parva nishtai), the glory of

devotees’ devotee

(sarama parva nishtai) and the essence of rahasyas are all listed for our

benefit.

The delivery and explanations are par excellence.

 

All the teachings are based on the knowledge received from Thiruvoimozi Pillai,

which have come down through Acharya lineage from Swami Nammalwar.

We should all remain grateful to Swami MM for this help and show our respect

by learning this immortal work URM with the meaning.

 

The name of the work is URM, means the gems of teachings put as a garland.
