Guest guest
sri: Dear Sri Balaji: Please accept adiyen's humble pranam: Your note is very well written, but there are certain subtle differences in the thought process here between the differrent schools of thought. In Sri Vaishnavam: Surrender to him is all that is needed. [ One school says even that surrender is made possible by him, other school says we need to make a action from our side] So Sri Vaishnava Achayras believe in HIS grace for everything which leads to the jeeva to Saranagathi (surrender). Your notes do not seem to be in line with the above. The last quote by Lord Sri Krishna teaches surrender as the only means. " Sarva-dhaman parityajna mam ekam saranam vraja ahm tvan sarva- papebhyo moksayisyami ma suchah " You could read the short meanings at: http://radioramanuja.com/books/pl/yadr.pdf Detailed meanings at: http://radioramanuja.com/eb/ You write, quote ===== "This collection of sixteen names (of lord nArAyaNa) destroys the evils of the Kali Yuga. There is no, any other effective means (of liberation) if we look in all sections of the Vedas." - lord brahma to shrI nAradha, in kalisantharaNa upanishadh. End quote ===== But in SriViashnvam, it is only the Grace of the LORD that will liberate any soul. According to your note, chanting the Lords name is an effective means to Liberation. But then you have made HIM into a business deal maker, According to your note, chant so and so, x number of times and this is the effective means of liberation. This is not correct as per Sri Vaishnava philosophy, we do the chanting as a service to him, or to please him (or both) but we never expect anything back on return for this action. Though we never expect anything back, HE, the lord uses these actions as a vyajam and gives us eternal service to him. ============================================ SriVaishnavam does agree with the central theme that we need to have him in out hearts and thoughts all the time. And chanting his name is a very good thing to do. But to say that, chanting his name gives you so and so, seems to be against the true nature of any devotee. PS: We do not chant for our pleasure or benefit, We chant for his pleasure, as a service to him. ============================================ I hope you take the central point in this note, Saranagathi (surrender to him) is the only way as per Sri Vaishnava School of thought. I am open to further discussion on this topic, either on this list or off the list. If there are any statements in this mail or other mails, that in any way hurt any devotee, please forgive me, for my intention is to present the points as they have been taught to me by my Acharyan.
