HOW TO CELEBRATE GURU PURNIMA ON JULY 5, 2001

Since Sri Swamiji is not coming to USA, a number of devotees wanted to find out,

how to celebrate Guru Purnima to honor our Sadguru Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda

Swamiji.

Guru Purnima which falls on July 5, 2001 (Thursday), is a special occasion for

all the devotees to worship Sadguru Sri Swamiji.

Our Priest Sri Shankaramanch N. P. Sharma of Datta Temple gave the procedure to

worship our Sadguru. Please follow the steps listed below:

1) Deepaaradhana - Light the candle (or light the cotton wick placed in oil in

a small bowl) in from of Sri Swamiji's picture or His padukas or both.

2) Do Praanaayaama

3) Do Sankalpa as follows: (When you do Sankalpa you are basically indicating

your name, Gotra, and Nakshatra; and praying for health and prosperity,

praying for our welfare in the family life and in work place/business; and

requesting Sri Swamiji to grant His blessings on us)

Now, please mention your Gotra, name and nakshatra (birth star) Then say the following:

Asmaakam sahakutumbaanaam kshema sthairya vijaya dhairya abhaya Aayuraarogya

Ishwarya Abhivrudhi sidhyardham Asmat Guroh. Avadhuta Sri Ganapathi

Sachchidananda Guru Anugraha prassaadena mama ishta kaamyardha phala

sidhyardham mama udyoga vyaapaara vyavahaara anukoolathaa sidhyardham Yadha

shaktim Maha Guru Purnima Punyadivase Guru Mantra japam karishye.

4) Next you have to do Dhyaanam by saying the following sloka:

"Koorchaabhiraama smitha Manju Vaktram

Kaashaaya Vastraavruta Neeladeham

Dyaayeth Bruhachchitraka Sobhiphaalam

Sri Sachchidaananda Gurum Prasannam"

5) Then do Guru Mantram japam (At least 108 times- Three types of Guru Mantras

are given below. You can select one of the three and do japam. Or you can

select all three mantras to do japam) A) Om Hreem Namah Sivaaya

B) Om Iyem Hreem Sreem Sivaraama Anagha Dattaayanamha

C) Sachchidaanandaaya Vidmahe

Guru Sreshtaaya Dheemahi

Tanno Brahmarishi Prachodayaat

6)After you complete the japam, you should say the following as a way of completion.

"Yadhaashakti Guru Mantra Japena Bhagawaan Sarvaatmakah: Sarvam Sree Sadguru Paadaarpanamastu.
