Preamble: Now it is clear that one should search for

a Guru. But who is a Guru? What can he do? Several

questions arise about His degrees and qualifications.

In fact, many think on these lines and ask

questions about them. Not only that, they raise

another intriguing question, 'Can He change me?'

This should not be the way of thinking of one's Guru.

Swamiji is giving a detailed account for a proper

understanding of the quality of Guru in the following

two hymns:

Verse 13

Guroh vidyaatmano naanyat

Satyam Satyam na samshayah /

Tallaabhaartham prayatnaastu

Kartavyoni maneeshibhih //

There is nothing other than the Guru, a symbol of

knowledge and wisdom. This is true and beyond doubt.

So a virtuous person should try for the awareness of

the quality of Guru.

Guru is, in other words, an embodiment of knowledge;

Swamiji says it is true and repeats it twice. Why?

A mother, in order to lull her babe and make it drink

milk, frightens it of the coming of a stranger to take

it away. But, though it is false, the baby takes it

for truth. The mother utters a lie for the

good of her babe.

But here Swamiji says that he is saying a truthful

truth or one without falsehood; to stress that He

repeats it twice.
