The "Language" of Idols

Jaya Guru Datta,

Here is today's saying:

“It is the nature of man to find 'short cuts' for everything. To facilitate

the vision of God, our Rishis have devised some symbolic objects in addition

to the language of mantra. These objects are the different idols that we

worship. As long as one does not 'see' the presence of the Almighty in an

idol, it is nothing more than a mere piece of stone, like a language is a

bundle of strange sounds as long as one cannot understand that language.

One has to put in a lot of effort--like one does while learning a language-

to be able to 'see' God in the idol. When one develops this ability in

addition to learning the God's language (the language of mantra,) one will

soon experience God's presence in the idol."
