Jaya Guru Datta,

To those to whom this applies: HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Here is today's saying:

“Have you noticed that in 'Navabhakti Geetalu' of Swamiji, Swamiji has explained

the qualities of tongue (Nalige)? Swamiji is addressing this fleshy appendage

called tongue as follows: 'Oh tongue, speak only what is favorable to others.

Even though wicked thoughts try to become speech, you stop them and filter

them. Speak only what is sweet and good. You remove the unwanted thoughts.'

Man either procures merit or is marred by the usage of this sensitive tongue . .

.. Therefore, tongue must be handled very cautiously. It can make friends and

make you lose friends. Eat only that much which is necessary and speak only

that much necessary.

O, tongue, discriminate and then speak. Think before you speak. Do not subject

me to shame, do not make me a chatterbox, do not create displeasure because of

your actions. You are my only true friend. Friends and relatives come to me

becuase of you. Speak only truth, you have not bones. Do not put me in awkward

situations. When you do not want to act (speak,) you chant in silence, 'Jai

Guru Datta, Sri Guru Datta.' "

Sri Swamiji,

Gnana Bodha Sabha pp. 8 - 9
