Guest guest
Jaya Guru Datta, Please note: Swamiji Says has a new e-mail address: swamiji-says . Here is today's saying: “There are many who try to run away from karma. But it will come back sooner or later. Therefore you have to consciously perform karma to overcome the karma you have performed consciously. A house has been locked. When we turn the key one way, the lock opens. When we turn the key in the opposite direction, it gets locked. The lock of karma behaves more or less similarly. Even that lock can be unlocked using special techniquies. One should learn those skills. Some people say that karma always causes bondage. It is not so. Performing karma without selfishness is like opening the lock. It releases the bondage of the past karmas. On the other hand, performing karma with selfish motive will again subject the performer to karmic bondage. To practice selfless karma, one has to follow Sadguru. One should lead a life prescribed by vedanta. The karma performed in the past unknowingly gives sorrow now. Selfless karma performed now will remove the bondage of the past karma and will result in happiness. You performed karma in the past on account of ignorance. Therefore you had to take this birth. Now, when your master asks you to indulge in activities such as puja, homa, etc., you ask 'Why all this? For how long?' so on and so forth. There is only one answer. You were ignorant then and performed wrong karma. Now, perform right types of karma consciously. Meditation, Japa, Puja, service to Guru, service to the society - all these are good actions as long as they are performed without selfishness. On the other hand, if you do all these things with selfish motive, they increase the burden of your karma. The Almighty is eagerly searching for such beings who do their karma without selfishness. Ultimately all beings have to merge in Him." Sri Swamiji Bhakti Mala, April 1997 pp. 8 - 9 Speech from Shivaratri 1997 Sri Guru Datta, Swamiji Says Suggest a quote for this week's Swamiji Says!
