Guest guest
Jaya Guru Datta, Please note: Swamiji Says has a new e-mail address: swamiji-says . Here is today's saying: "Usually, all our actions are initiated by selfishness. Selfishness increases attachment for external objects, which in turn encourages the tendency of our mind to flow outwards. Therfore selfishness is anti-tapas. If our actions have to become tapas, we should perform them without selfishness. Then our actions become acts of service. There are innumerable ways of doing service. The way we chose is not important. The question is 'are our actions directed at serving the humanity?' It must be borne in mind that our action ceases to remain as service once we start expecting something in return. The expectation need not necessarily be in the form of materialistic gains. Aspiring for fame is also selfishness. Service, if rendered honestly, will remove selfishness and will make the mind to turn inwards. Such a physical form of tapas willultimately lead the seeker to mental penance."
