Guest guest
Swamiji Speaks If the Upanishads present the aim and purpose of human life, the Bhagavad Gita indicates the way to attain them and live a life of fulfilment. By faithfully following the path shown by the Bhagavad Gita MAN can make his life sublime, and departing, leave behind him footprints in the sands of time. This is one among the many reasons for the immense and universal popularity of the Bhagavad Gita among both the intellectuals and the laymen. Our devotees, specially those from abroad-- their number is quite large-- coming frequently to our Ashram (Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Ashram) in Mysore -- had heard while at home, about the great values of life cherished in the Bhagavad Gita, and when in our Ashram, used to display a keen interest in knowing and understanding them. They were, whenever time allowed them, in the habit of putting questions to us concerning the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, and we were answering them in simple and spoken English. A number of such questions-answers sessions ensued as a a natural outcome of this process. The devotees participating in these sessions proposed that a simple and lucid paraphrase of all the verses of the Bhagavad Gita be made available to them. The result is the book now in your hands. We do not claim any originality and/or erudition in our work. We have closely followed the patern of the Sanskrit verses almost throughout while rendering them to English, an alien language to us, and kept in mind the readers for whom the book is intended, viz., those who go by the name 'foreigners'. It is our belief that injustice has not been done to the text. We have to add a word of warning here. The reader is sure to be disappointed if he expects or anticipates a delination of any or all of the paths to perfection laid down by the Lord in His Immortal Song Divine. It has been our endeavour to present the original as it is, but in a different language whose limitations are obvious. We believe that knowingly or unknowingly we have neither omitted a syllable nor added one. If this little book kindles an interest in the reader to know more about the Bhagavad Gita and its timeless message, we shall be satisfied. May Lord Dattatreya in the form of the Gitacharya bless all. Swamiji March 10, 1990 Port of Spain (West Indies) Send FREE Valentine eCards with Greetings! http://greetings.
