Guest guest
Lessons In Vedanta - 1 by Sri Swamiji Who am I? This is a key question in Vedanta. Only to those in whom this question arises, Vedanta should be taught. Your question is 'who am I?' isn't it? Ask someone else who they are. They may say, 'I am Mr. Rao' or 'I am Mr. Sharma' and so on. Rao and Sharma are, in fact, the names given to their bodies. Everyone feels that he or she is the body itself. Is it true? Let us see. 1. The seer (one who sees) is always different from that which is seen. Assume that you are looking at a wall. You are the 'seer' and the wall is the 'seen'. You are not the wall. In other words, whatever you see is not you. You are hearing a sound. Are you the sound? No. You are smelling an object. Are you the smell. No. It can be said with absolute certainty that whatever you perceive with the help of the five senses is dirrerent from yourself. Now, look at your own body. Can you not see it -- like you see the wall? Have you not already realized that what you see is different from yourself? Thus you are not your body.
