Guest guest
Jaya Guru Datta, Today's saying is the first section of Lessons in Vedanta - 2. Sri Swamiji says: "In the previous lesson, we learned that the body is not 'I'. Then, who am 'I'? Let us examine whether the sense organs, which are subtler than the physical body, can be referred to as 'I'. We can perceive only through the sense organs (Indriyas). Nothing can be perceived if there are no Indriyas. Therefore, maybe, it is possible that one can consider the Indriyas to be 'I'. Let us examine closely. You are merely grasping through the organs of perception and as such you yourself are not those organs. Let us consider an example. There is a pot. For you to see the pot, two basic things are necessary. First is the eye and second is the light. Eyes and light, these two are such entities that even if one of them is not there, the pot cannot be seen. It means that one is as important as the other. Both are required to see the pot. Is it ever possible for such things, which serve you as aids, to become yourself? Therefore, you are not your eye. Similarly, you are not your ear, you are not your tongue, and so on."
