Guest guest
Dear All, Jai Guru Datta. It would be most in keeping with Sri Swamiji's teachings to respond kindly and non-judgementally to emails which we might question. Some people in America have a difficult time getting Rudraksha malas and while Kirk's offer could be perceived by some to be materialistic, some with other slants of mind might see it as a nice offer to help. The day before Kirk's email, someone at our Datta Temple in Baton Rouge asked if we had Rudraksha malas for sale in our bookstall. I had to say "No." and I could not help her by knowing where she could find one. It was a nice opportunity for her when Kirk's offer came through. With all of the difficulty going on in the world, let's all try to be kind to one another, especially in this forum. We are all Datta's children. Jai Guru Datta. Sri Guru Datta. Guest guest
i feel that Nadabhakti is right. Moreover, there´s a nice Sookti Manjari in BhaktiMala March 2002, which can be easily applied to this issue: Yam yam dharmam svayamaacharitum Shaktastam tam bodhaya naanyam Shrinute sarvastava hita bodham Yadi te nishthaa tatra trishuddhaa (Preach only what you can practice. Don´t preach anything else. If there is threefold purity in what you preach, everyone will listen to you.) Then this Sookti contains a story about Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa: A mother brought her son to Him and asked Him to tell her son to stop eating sweets. - It took Sri Ramakrishna one month! to be able to tell the boy: "Stop eating sweets!" But after His order, the boy stopped it at once. Why did it take Sri Ramakrishna one whole month to tell the boy to stop eating sweets? He first had to give up eating sweets Himself in this story, and to give up even thinking about sweets. He first had to make completely sure He would never ever again be craving for sweets Himself. So the Sookti advises to only give advice to others in case you have been practising the same yourself with trifold purity for quite some time. So all of us can investigate: Have there been occasions in which i myself have been imposing on others, have been too "mundane" or have been too tiresome for others? (It is not my intention to start a discussion on that topic, just do your investigation by yourself please!) Jaya Guru Datta, Sri Guru Datta Carolin Dear All, Jai Guru Datta.
