Jaya Guru Datta,

Here is today's saying:

“Who am I (who is not independent during sleep state)?

Who am I (who is always running in the wakeful state)?

When the fruits of past actions has to be experienced through the indriyas and

buddhi, I come to wakeful state and start wandering here and there.

When the indriyas become fatigued and when the karma that has to be experienced

only through the buddhi comes to play, I start wandering in the dream world

created by the mind.

When even the buddhi is fatigued and when there is no fruit of karma which needs

to be experienced immediately, I dissociate from both the buddhi and sense

organs, I remain drowned - along with prana - in the dark cave called Sushupti

(deep sleep).

When my intellect is drowned in ignorance, because of my association with it,

alas! 'I' (who is in fact the form of Sachchidananda) also behave as though I

do not know anything. (Here, intellect means all the four states of the mind,

namely, Mansa, Buddhi, Chitta and Ahankara).

In Sanskrit:

Nidra vivashah koham vaa

Jagriti dhaavan koham vaa

Karma vashaanme sendriya buddhyaa

bhojye prapte vipula phale

Soham jaagradavasthaapanno

dhaavaameestata eva 1

Shraante chendriya varge kevala

dhee bhojyepi cha karma phale

Soham maanasa kalpita loke

svapnaabhikhye vicharaami 2

Shraantaayaamatha dhiyyapi bhojye

karmani chaaraadapraapte

Nirdheekarana sapraanoham

supti guhayaam leenosmi 3

Tamasi vileene sati me chitte
