Guest guest
Jaya Guru Datta, Here is today's saying: “Here one may get confused. From where did this (Ultimate) 'I' come when there is already an 'I' which is asserting itself so clearly? Let us see. In the very beginning, it seemed as though the body itself was 'I'. Afterwards, it appeared as if the senses were 'I'. Later the mind and the intellect appeared to be 'I'. Even in the mundane world, the body is sometimes referred to as 'I'. For example, we say -- 'I have fair complexion.' Sometimes the mind will be referred to as 'I'. For instance, 'I am a scholar.' Even the sense organs are often considered as 'I'. For, e.g., 'I am seeing.' Ignorant beings refer to different things as 'I' in different circumstances. Just because it seems so to them, can we say that the body is the self? Or can we declare that the mind or the intellect or the indriyas are 'I'? All these are 'seen' and therefore can never be the 'seer'. Similarly, even the ego, which asserts as 'I' 'I' can also never be the Ultimate 'I'. If so, who is the Ultimate 'I'?
