Attachment generates desire and from desire anger grows. LESSONS FROM BHAGAVAD GITA - 9 As taught by Parama Pujya Sri Swamiji (Editors note: The following applies to verse 61- Having restrained all the senses one should sit integrated, deeming Me as the Supreme. His wisdom is steady whose senses are under control. Verse 62 will be discussed tomorrow in conjunction with Verse 63) “Deeming Me as the Supreme” means deeming Lord Krishna as the Supreme Divine Spirit that has taken a human form. Therefore, ‘deeming Me’ refers to the Supreme Divine Spirit that is the Supreme Self. It is not easy to control the mind, as the world of the senses is very attractive and alluring. Therefore, in order to overcome the temptations of the sensual world, the Sadhaka should first see through its unreality. He should have the firm conviction that pleasures of the senses are momentary and end in pain and sorrow. Practices like discrimination between the real and unreal, enquiry into the Self and meditation on the Self should be undertaken by the Sadhaka. When his mind gets fully merged into the Self, he will get real Peace and Bliss. But blinded by the darkness of ignorance (Maya), man wanders about among the objects of this world in search of happiness and peace and causes misery to himself and to others. As the Guru appears with the lamp of wisdom in his hand, He advises the man, “Calm yourself, restrain yourself, restrain your mind and the senses. Turn your mind within your heart. You will discover your Self, the abode of Peace and Bliss. You had not lost it before, nor have you gained it now. It has always been there. Only you were ignorant of it. Now when you controlled your senses and mind and turned your mind inside, you find that your Self shines. You think you have regained it. In fact, you had not lost it at all. Thus, your wisdom has now become steady. Hereafter, the world of the senses cannot tempt you or allure you.” Health - your guide to health and wellness
