Nor has he meditation. To the man without meditation, there is no peace. For one without peace, how can there be happiness? LESSONS FROM BHAGAVAD GITA – 12 As taught by Parama Pujya Sri Swamiji Compiled by: Swami Dattananda Bhakti Mala, March 1993 The unsteady is he whose mind is distracted every now and then by the impulse of desires. A man may possess all power and wealth, yet he cannot put a stop to his desire. As a result, his mind will always be restless and unsteady. Such a man has no wisdom because he does not realize that the enjoyments he can get from the earthly objects are fleeting, inconstant, and full of dangers. Because his mind is always troubled with worldly desires and the resultant anxieties, it is difficult for him to devote himself to meditation. Therefore, it is said that there is no wisdom for the unsteady, nor has he meditation. On the other hand, the wise man knows that the only cure for all diseases of the mind is the knowledge of the Self. So he gives up all desires and makes his mind free from all distractions. Then his mind becomes calm and peaceful. When the mind is calm and serene, it becomes fit for meditation or contemplation on the Self, and attains eternal beatitude. Therefore, it is the peace of the mind preceding meditation, or the state of mind free from all distractions and anxieties, that opens the floodgates of eternal happiness. So it is said that without peace, there cannot be real happiness. LAUNCH - Your Music Experience http://launch.
