Generally yajna refers to a certain form of ritual connected with offering of oblation into the sacred fire by chanting holy mantras. But here, the Lord employs the term to any act, big or small, done as a dedication to God and for the welfare of humanity. Any action performed by a man with a selfish motive for his private ends and for his luxury necessarily affects him adversely and binds him to the wheel of births and deaths. But work done as a dedication to God and service to humanity or in the words of the Lord as yagna, does not bind its performer. Such an act, on the other hand, purifies and elevates him to Godhead. Therefore, the Lord exhorts Arjuna to perform actions in the spirit of yajna, giving up attachment to the results. - Official partner of 2002 FIFA World Cup http://fifaworldcup.
