This shall be the milch-cow of your desires." LESSONS FROM BHAGAVAD GITA – 18 As taught by Parama Pujya Sri Swamiji “Having created mankind together with Yajna in the beginning, Prajapati (the Creator) said, ‘by this sacrifice shall you multiply. This shall be the milch-cow of your desires.” God created mankind along with sacrifice or Yajna. That means sacrifice was born with man. Then the creator said, “By this sacrifice you multiply.” The idea is a man can prosper by performing actions in the spirit of Yajna. Non-performers of Yajna have no place in the scheme of God. They will definitely get destroyed. On the other hand, performers of Yajna would secure everything they wish. So Yajna is compared to the mythological milch-cow, the owner of which gets all his desires fulfilled by the blessings of the cow. If you look at the universe, you can find every object in it performing Yajna. The sun shines to give light to us. The moon, the planets and stars shine and give delight to us. The cloud forms in the sky and pours down as rains for the benefit of the world. The Mother Earth supports everything that lives on it. The oceans, the rivers, the trees, plants and herbs, in short, all things in the universe exist, not for themselves, but for the sake of others. Thus all these objects in the world are doing sacrifice (Yajna) quite naturally, although they are inanimate and do not know that they are born with sacrifice. Man, the rational being that he is, must sacrifice that too in a world sustained by sacrifice, and so it behooves him to perform his actions in the spirit of sacrifice, and that is the only way to enrich his life. - Official partner of 2002 FIFA World Cup http://fifaworldcup.
