Jaya Guru Datta,

Here is today's saying:

“What then is the use of the Vedas?

An ignorant person will get mixed up about Atma and Buddhi and suffers becuase

he assumes that the feelings like pain and pleasure are experienced by the

Atman. It is here that the Vedas are useul. They explain the Parabrahma. They

also explain as to what is Atma and what is Anatma (self and non-self). They go

on to declare that 'That which is present in all the three states (i.e. the

Atman) itself is Parabrahma.' The word 'tvam' in Sanskrit means 'you'. The

Vedas have referred Parabrahma as 'tat'. The Vedas have declared that 'Tat' and

'Tvam' are one and the same. Tat Tvam Asi is a famous vedic quote. It is here

that the Vedas serve as testimonies and not for establishing the existence of

the Atman, which is its own proof and which establishes itself.

What follows from the above discussion is that it is the 'I' which remains

uninterrupted in all the three states, and no evidence is required for it."
