The Trigunas are the root cause for Srishti (creation). They are like white, red and black threads. The rope formed out of these three threads is the Moola Prakriti. Satva Guna is clear like a crystal. It gives rise to peace, knowledge, etc. That which causes the experience of pleasure to Jeevis is Rajas. It causes interest in actions. To veil is the nature of Tamas. It destroys discrimination. It casues sorrow (unhappiness). Variety in the manifest objects is caused due to the imbalance of the Trigunas. Because Maya acts throught the Trigunas, the Maya itself is Moola Prakriti. It always veils Sat-Chit-Ananda."
