Because, in this human world, success in action is quickly attained. LESSONS FROM BHAGAVAD GITA – 32 As taught by Parama Pujya Sri Swamiji Compiled by: Swami Dattananda Bhakti Mala, July 1995 “Desiring success in their actions, people in this world worship the Gods. Because, in this human world, success in action is quickly attained.” Why is it that people do not care for the realization of God? It is because they are attached to the objects of the senses. These people perform actions to enjoy the fruits. They worship God to make available to them the fruits of their works. God blesses them and they get the results easily. It is because the results on the earthly plane come to us more quickly than the results that are on the highest plane of spirituality. If a man prays to God for the cure of his disease, he will get the result more quickly than if he prays to God for self-realization. Realization of God is not easy. It requires purification of mind and a whole-hearted devotion to God. Sustained disciplinary practices are needed to purify the body and the mind. It requires lots of patience and perseverance. But ordinary people want only the worldly objects of enjoyment. They pray for it and they get it. Through the law of cause and effect, God grants us the objects that we desire. It is our prayers and prayerful actions that make our desires fulfilled. In fact, fulfillment of desire is but the reaction of our own actions either physical or mental. If we sacrifice some money in the name of God, or God’s children, and if we sincerely pray to God for redress of our grievances, that action must bring some reaction. And every reaction must be in tune with the action performed. If the action is good, the reaction will be good, and if the action is wicked, the reaction will bring pain and suffering. All miseries or sufferings are the reactions of wicked actions done in this life or the previous ones. Thus people are born with tendencies that are the results of their previous actions. Some are born with good tendencies. They do virtuous deeds. Others are born with bad tendencies. They always indulge in forbidden actions. As a result, the intellectual capacity and the skill of the people may not be the same. Therefore human beings are divided into different classes according to their tendencies. These classes are known as castes. Sign up for SBC Dial - First Month Free http://sbc.
